I've been falling about laughing at some of your posts. I'm supposed to be finishing off a history paper on Ancient France for my local U3A group (studying for "oldies) but this is so much more entertaining.
I do have a question. How do you attach the foil behind your radiators. I've seen answers to this somewhere (maybe on this thread) but can't remember where.
Thanks for the chuckles.

Edit: Does anyone rmember Liberty bodices? I hated wearing them but loved the smell when they were new in September!!

Kittie and Moneysavingfamilycomp: Thanks for the info on radiator foil.
Liberty Bodices: These looked like a waistcoat but they were worn underneath your top clothes. As I remember they were two layers bonded together - the top layer was smooth, the under layer was fleecy and they were fastened down the front with small rubber buttons. I looked on Wikipedia - apparently they were called Liberty Bodices because they replaced the tight corseting of the 19th century. Apparently some designs had suspenders attached for hooking up to nylons but I don't think mine did. I think only girls wore them - I don't think my brother ever had them, mum just got warm wool vests for him in the winter.
Flanelette Sheets: I bought a set of (king size) top sheet, fitted sheet and two pillow cases at a local small curtain shop for £18. It's maybe worth looking at small shops for this sort of thing rather than the big stores which just have the standard stuff.Dec GC £100/76.61/16.46/10.19 - £103.26

I hear ya sister.
Do they still make those silly mittens that have a string attached from one to the other, that you thread through coat sleeves... lift one arm, mitten threaded in sleeve of other arm disappears upward to somewhere near your elbow.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Yep, you can still get idiot mitts lol...-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Morning All...first, have you checked out the Grocery Challenf thread Muppet--some excellent ideas on there for helping to reduce spends without compromising quality, & loads of yummy recipes from our own MrsMc!
Good idea about looking in fabric shops for flanneletteSIZE=1]sp[/SIZE Gillaman--my lot are always asking for the 'fluffy stuff' haha--but sadly lacking inavailability around these parts. Me muvva spent an absolute fortune on two double sheets & two pillowcases from one of those Oxendale type catalogues.
And as for the vests...a family saying has grown from a little remark made years ago, when my gran was visiting us. I'd dressed in a heavy-weight skirt &--compared to now--thick cotton T-shirt...must have been this sort of time of year...& Gran told me to tuck my vest in or I'd "get a cold in the kidneys"--not exactly the last thing you want to hear when your going on a first date! The fun mum & I have now, seeing all the young things baring their midriffs & Gran's words echoing from above lol!...then again, as has been said by many generations--With Age Comes Wisdom & aint that the truth if reading the advice on here is anything to go by....Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Nowt wrong with idiot mitts or those scarf/hat things, my ds and dd has them, cant find them in the shops so i end up stitching on some elastic to his regular mittens. I am no longer one of those mums who has to spend an extra 10 mins hunting for their kids mitts/scarfs and hats before they leave for school!:rotfl:0
