  • Morning everyone, have struggled to post for a while but I intend to visit more regularly. Here is my list for today:
    • Check surveys and free lotto
    • Cut wood for log burner (we have access to free pallets from local factory)
    • No Spend Day
    • All food from stores
    • List 3 items on £bay
"These things take time but I know that I'm the most inept that ever stepped"
  • Good morning everyone - and thanks for starting us off Jonno. It's only half past ten but I feel like I've barely stopped. Back to work tomorrow and starting to feel a bit  about it.
I'm another one stuck under grey and rainy skies so today will mainly be about batch cooking in preparation for the rest of the week I think.
    :o surveys
    [STRIKE]:o do my friend's exercise class[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:o 15 mins housework and declutter[/STRIKE]
:o make anniversary dinner for me and DH (and the kids of course)
:o Plan and batch cook for lunches for the rest of the week
    :o Aim for a NSD
:o Read some of my book
:o Fuss over naughty tortie as there will be nobody in all day after today so she really will be stuck in the cage. :(
    [STRIKE]:o Update YNAB[/STRIKE]
:o I might try and sneak a nap in. Whenever I say this though, it never happens.

    Morning Frugal Ones,
Well, what a glorious Bank Holiday morning! Blue skies & so sunny, I've just had to pop inside for another dollop of Factor 30. Haha! As if I have! It's been absolutely wazzing it down since I first peeped outside at 6.30 a.m & no sign of it stopping yet. Cat was forced to make a dash outside for necessary functions, got soaked, slarmed in mud & thankfully mr f managed to dive for the bedroom door before he got in there to clean up his feet on our duvet!
    Today's money saving activity:
*Cooked a few windfall apples & pears with some of neighbour's rogue blackberries to make the base of a fruit sponge pudding. Will make the sponge mix later & may do some custard to use up some out of date custard powder.
*Made some sage & onion stuffing which took care of another windfall apple & a stale cob which I blitzed up for crumbs.
*Paid money into CC from 'Clothes Piggy' to cover mr f's new DMs. RRP for these £120. He found them online for much cheaper, then got 10% off, so paid around £67. Used CC to maximise M&S points (we love vouchers in this house).
*Wrapped ebay item for posting tomorrow (in a recycled envelope).
*Loaded washer for overnight wash on cheap tariff. Hope will be able to peg it out tomorrow. No chance today.
    *Eat up more leftovers.
    *Pick runner beans for dinner.
*Had a go at a few surveys, but was wrong demographic for 4 in a row & decided to give up. I don't want to spend too much of today on the internet.
*Not going out today. The cider festival in town is rather tempting, but will doubtless be spendy & it's also pouring. Will stay at home & finish my book & knit the last bit of sock for the present cupboard.
May possibly do some family history too & re-watch a bit of Episode 1 of a series we started last night on Amazon Prime. Infuriatingly, I managed to drop asleep in the middle, so saw the beginning & the end. The middle bit, unsurprisingly was the key bit which linked it together. Grrrr!
Have a good day, all. Weather supposed to dry up later.

    Afternoon all!

Had a pretty quiet weekend but managed to do a 3 mile run and a 4 mile run. Planning to get out again today despite the rain!

Dawn - I made mushroom soup with rice instead if cream. Think it was a Jamie Oliver recipe. Tasted nice but slightly strange texture, maybe needed more whizzing up!

    Today I have/will:
    Post on here!
    Check banks
    Check fpl
    Do fitness dvd
    All meals from stores
    Go for a run
    More crochet
Take pics for listing bits on eBay
    Wash hair and dry naturally

Think that's everything for today! Hope you all have a good day!

    * This morning I've been hunting in vain for a missing Argos receipt to return a broken item. Found reference to it on a bank statement. In the course of this I checked what can count as "proof of purchase" and found that if you had a witness to the purchase this can be just as valid as a receipt. Will post a link to this fact when I can find it again!?!

    Here it is. (Link)

    * Made a new notepad from scrap paper.

    * Free Dr Oetker pizza voucher arrived. Redeemed it and claimed another. Walked to the shop. Free exercise.

    * Signed up for a charity run. £2. Much cheaper than the usual £10.

jonno Thank you for getting us started today.

It is raining here and looks as if it is set for the day, dd is complaining as we won't let her go out and practice her roller skating, she can barely keep up right at the best of times, she has only had them a few days.

Today is the last day of OH's time off work, never seems to last long when he is off :( The plan for today is to have a day at home, OH getting ready to go back to work, making sure he has all his camping gear, spending most of our time just enjoying being together and ending in an early night.

    Today's plan:
    Open curtains fully
Turn off lights and appliances not is use
    Soak porridge overnight
    Run DW overnight
    Run WM overnight
    Check FPL
    NSD
Close curtains before it gets dark
    Dry laundry on the airer
    B/L/D from stores
    Cull 100 emails
Read and post on this thread for inspiration, motivation and support.

My understanding is that YNAB is an Adobe AIR application so YNAB is supported everywhere AIR is supported. AIR is no longer supported on Linux so YNAB isn't officially supported on Ubuntu.

However, you could see if there is now a workaround by Submitting A Help Request here. (Link).

    Hi

I am back, as long as connection holds up.

After a jolly nice 2 hour nap to Miss Marple I finally stirred myself and now have 3 blackcurrant pies cooking and a pastry base chilling in fridge ready for a bakewell tart later. No eggs left for now. Love it when children come home and eat the egg glut, makes me feel very virtuous and frugal.

Anyway estimate cost of blackcurrant pies to be.
    2 x 250 butter 1.64
    flour 0.45
3 eggs 0 i know i feed the chucks but I count them as free.
    water 0
Sugar for mixing with fruit 10pence
Total 2.19 for 32 portions man size of pie = 6.8 pence a portion. Lets say 7p and of course there is electric.
They are massive pies and as long as I take them from oven before they burn will be lovely!

On the topic of food. DD is making BF a toblerone cheesecake. Very popular in rural postcodes whose women are feeding manual workers, although mine seem to sit on machines mostly now. Never mind, back on topic.
From a supermarket cost £10.38 for ingredients.
    From poundshop and al£i £3.35

Of course the best bit is someone has to eat the little bit of spare toblerone. It has to be done.
Finally stopped raining here which is probably why the internet is working.
Have a good day everyone. Got the pies out. Top one is a little overdone, oops

  • Hi everyone

Thanks for starting the thread Jonno. Hope you get some trade Bob.

Poochy woke me up at 6am so I've stayed awake since then - unheard of by me! Not a NSD as we went for a cheeky carvery breakfast and I popped to shop to get soup for lunches this week - will have this with homemade bread.

I painted the bathroom this morning and signed up to do dryathalon in September. It will be my first time and I do like a little tipple so I think it will be a challenge for me. I'm looking forward to saving the pennies, feeling a bit fitter and raising money for a good cause.

    FPL and surveys done
    Banking to update
    Book to finish
    Run the Hoover around

Think that's it for today - knackered now! Have a lovely if drizzly day everyone
