Just want to say there garage I used is main dealer and sells reputable car make. The prices are dictated by manufacturer so its not a back lane type of garage. Nothing against them either used them myself many times in past

Are you sure? That would be illegal.

    read http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2952483/Mechanics-took-car-118mph-joyride-Motorist-sporty-Ford-Focus-service-horrified-dashcam-footage-got-back.html

the mechanic was not fired , he still works there

    half truths again:

"Spoke to someone close to this, there was only one person in the vehicle during the speeding, who was sacked as soon as it was brought to there attention. The footage of the 2 guys talking was after the speeding and the rifleing through bags was actually the moving of bags from the footwell while they chatted about a local game stores carrier bag which was open and plain to see the contents.. The vehicle was in the dealership for less than 3 hours and probably clocked up less than 8 miles in road-tests, not even focus st's use that much fuel.. The owner of the vehicle was of cause in his right to be furious at the driving footage and was given all his money back and offered new tyres, he also apparently gave his word that he wouldn't take the matter any further and was more than happy with his new tyres, free service, £600 refund and the sacking of the driver.. Yet 6/7 weeks later he rings the papers.. Maybe he needed some more quick cash..if i was a local business id remember his name

he was not sacked , he moved to an adjacent branch for a while

this particular road was on traffic cops last week as notorious for racers-someone flipped their car over on the programs claming its because it was wet but they were actually going too fast

Why do you think it would be illegal?
Is it illegal when the Tesco head office determines what prices the goods should be sold at it its stores?
All car manufacturers have a price list for the vehicles sold at their outlets and the labour charges can be set this way as well.

now I thought a car manufacturer has a recommended selling price , and in a lot of cases "initiative" deals with the retailers , allowing them to reduce the recommended selling price , by biting into there profit , but knowing the difference would be made up elsewhere

I agree that is how if often works but there is nothing illegal about a manufacturer insisting that one of their own outlets or franchises must sell cars at the prices that they specify.
It would be a different case if the manufacturer was trying to force independent outlets to sell at a certain price as this would be price fixing but savemoney was referring to a main dealer outlet which is why I disagree with Car 54's comment about it being illegal.

If the outlet is owned by the manufacturer then they can set the prices. If it isn't (and most aren't) then price fixing would be an offence under the Competition Act 1998.

OP. You state that you don't want to complain to the garage, so what do you actually hope to achieve by starting this thread on here?

You want to continue using this "reputable" main dealer garage so don't want to damage your good relationship with them. A few still images don't give any indication of whether your car is being thrashed (in which case I would certainly complain and never use them again) or just being driven in excess of the speed limit in which case the driver at the time would be responsible for their illegal actions.

You are clearly someone who gets a bit obsessed about other people's driving. Having a camera in your car and wanting to show a mate some footage of some bad driving, as well as feeling the need to start this thread suggests that you would probably get far less stressed about relatively trivial things if you simply threw this camera away.
