in Credit cards
Hi, I've recently been looking around trying to find a way to join the credit history club but it seems banks and companies have made it extremely difficult for us with no credit history to get into that particular club. Now my questions are what can I do to get into that club and how do I go about getting good to excellent credit. Now I've read about it alot but it seems that it is extremely difficult and even this site has not been helpful aa I find a large gap where I would expect some explanation for people with no history and where they can get cards as even those topics that are out there end on suggestions for people with bad credit which doesn't help me out or plenty of others. What cards are available for people with no credit? What can I do to improve my credit? Will paying it off in full hurt my credit history? Help? Any explanation with some useful tips and pointers would be hugely appreciated.

If you have no credit/never had a credit card try Barclaycard Initial/Aqua credit card for your 1st card... once you have had it for 6/12months you can apply for a better credit card/bigger credit you can spend
Always pay the full balance off in full via DD as that will vastly improve your credit score0 -
You got some good answers in your other thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/53139930

I presume you have a bank account, so apply to your own bank first. They will have much more information about your financial circumstances.
Only if your own bank turns you down, apply to one of the other (sub-prime) cards.0 -
You don't mention why you have no credit, but if you have an American Express card in another country, they'll give you a card here in the UK, no problem. I got a £2500 limit.0

Apply to your bank first.
My OH got his first credit card last year. Santandar's 123 card. Previous to that his only credit was our joint mortgage which I doubt counts apart from the fact that every months payment has been made.
Prior to that when we all had our land line with British Telecom and using the phone for three months before you got the bill counted as credit. They refused me at the time but took him on, our circumstances were exactly the same

I've tried Barclaycard and Aqua and I've been turned down due to my credit score even though I don't have one and they claim there mean't for people without no credit history. Kind of a joke. I met both there lists of eligibility so I have no idea. How the hell do you get credit, if even the cards mean't for no credit history people turn down the very people there designed for??? Any ideas as this is just stupid.
Edit: Barclaycard recommended that I go to Apply with confidence on there site via a link on the same page that declined me. Now I did that and that site shows two cards. One being Aqua Classic and the other Aqua Advance. It says I have a good chance with two ticks. Should I go for this??? As I said any help is greatly appreciated!0 -
Are you on the electoral roll? If not, this is a problem.
How long have you lived at your present address? Do you move addresses a lot?
Why not obtain your £2 statutory credit reports to see if there is anything negative on there?
Do you have a mobile phone? If not, try getting a SIM only contract as that will show a payment history.LBM July 2006. Debt free 01 Sept 12 .. :T

I believe so. I voted in the general election. Also over 6 years at my current address. And where would I go for the £2 reports? And yes I have a mobile phone.0

you can have a look at your credit report with Call Credit free via Noddle. here is the link https://www.noddle.co.uk/
Also equifax are providing their credit report via Clearscore free now. Here is the link for that too https://www.clearscore.com/
To get your statutory report from Experian follow this link, it's £2 or you can sign up to the free trial with them but don't forget to cancel before the end of the trial time. http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/statutory-report.html

I've just tried the noddle option and they can't verify my identity. They said this is because I'm not on the electoral roll or I've got a new card which I don't. So even if I voted doe's this mean I'm not on the electoral roll?0
