  • I totally agree about seeing the totals dropping quicker once you start making headway with it. :T

I understand about you looking for the odd £70. I too was looking at my debt total this morning and had an odd £139 at the end of it/ I scraped together £40 just by budgeting and not overspending in the supermarket this morning. I then made a payment to my target CC and got my debt total to what it is now. How sad am I but its a huge boost seeing it coming down. :j

My new little goal is getting it under the £29,000 : Did I really just say that amount  Well it was over £33,000 so I am doing well :D

Addictive did you say, that.s an understatement :rotfl: I am well and truly addicted now.

Wishing you and yours a happy new year and hope that 2016 will be a prosperous one for all of us

  • Happy Soggy Sunday all :(

Weather is atrocious today. So stuck in doors I decide to crack on with yet more housework. Pulled out the TV cabinet  Dust, dust and more dust. I blame the Christmas tree :D

    • Hoovered (to Elvis on the TV whilst dancing) well its free exercise
    • Dusted
    • Beds changed
    • Dinner cooked
    • Washing done
    • Ironing done

As for the debt busting I feel like i'm stuck  Although I have made a couple of extra payments on my target CC It doesnt seem to be coming down quick enough :(

I have to wait for pay day and my CC statements to come in again. Feeling a little impatient again. :(

I am having a day where I want it all to go down quicker. Be patient I here you say. I suppose I need to look at how far I have come since August. :)

Anyway, back to work tomorrow :( so need to make lunch and organise myself.

Off to kick myself up the backside and keep plodding

Hi 12MC, I know what you mean, I'm feeling the same just waiting. Long way to go but it'll come round soon enough. I even paid an extra £3 off my debt today just to give me that little sense of achievement.
  • Hi Icc

I know its going to take me a while and am usually quite positive. However today I'm like

I will carry on regardless and once I start paying my CCs for January I will see it come down again :)

Keep going, we CAN do this :T

  • Hi all

Back to work now and I'm shattered :( But things have been ok at this end. OH has been like a new man and I hope it lasts :)

He took our car for MOT today. I thought it wasn't due for another couple of months  Good job someone's on the ball eh.

The bad news first :We needed 2 new tyres and a couple of silly bits. £130 later the car passed.

The good news now : (drum roll please) I paid it out of my emergency fund. Not a credit card in site :j

I cant believe that we managed to pay for something with our own money.. It seems trivial but its a huge step for us :D

I have seen a couple of posts on here where someone said they don't see the point of saving an emergency fund for the car. I disagree. (thoughts please)

If we hadn't come this far I would have just grabbed one of the CCs and then thought about how I would pay it off.

I intend to keep adding to my EF to pay my car insurance in full at the end Feb. Last year it was only £238 for the year so hoping for a little lower this time. :)

Hope everyone is well and not got the post Christmas blues.

    Hello :hello:

Sorry to hear the car cost money to get through it's MOT but a very very big Well Done for paying for it with real money* :T:T:T
That is exactly the point of an emergency fund/having savings.

    * to me paying by credit card is not "real money" and that is why, I think, so many people get into problems with debt. They don't see it as real. I think (not an original idea I'm sure) that credit cards should be renamed debt cards :money:
Good to hear all is well with OH :)

    Well done again _party_

  • Well done on paying for the car repairs in cash b0282.gif

I may be repeating myself as I posted about this on Ellie's thread and you might have seen it on there but will mention it again.
I think everyone should have a car repair pot, cars always need work (plus MOT) so why not get into the mindset of paying for it with your own funds rather than using credit.

I also have a pot called 'Car Replacement' - I had only started it last year and my car had to be replaced. I used some of my pots up and borrowed from DH and DS to buy one. I am saving £30pm into this so in 6 years (which is how long my last car lasted) I should have enough for a second hand car.

I know some people use their Emergency Fund to save for usual things but in my eyes an emergency fund is for things like the roof blowing off etc whereas car repairs are a foreseen expense and need their own pot.

I appreciate that this can take time to build up but it is so worth saving for annual expenses.

This is just my opinion but I totally understand if people want to use their EF pot for usual expenses.
