and i also have it on good authority from the bank they can choose what is earmarked instantly, what do you think i have been going on about? so they can do better so why don't they ,instead of this spot the missing payment nonsense0

the shop can deduct funds from your available balance instantly , if they choose to,so yes same day banking, but the bank is telling them it is not nessasary to do so ,if they don't want below a figure of their choice ,leaving us doing the sums. it's not that the capability isn't their.if you work for the bank check your facts, i have them all here in writing from the bank, but obviously i can't send em to you0

no,you complain , you tell them your not happy with them doing it in there own time, hopefully they will then know ,we are all not happy with it.this system is like the how long is a piece of string thing, we have no guidelines for this , like graham said they took payment from his card a year later. or what alot of peole have done is not tell em we are not happy , but just stopped using the bank.0

I am perfectly happy for retailers to take my money later, rather than sooner.....it will be earning me interest in the meantime. When they do want it, the money will be there for them. The guideline is that the shop doesn't have to deduct the funds right away, so don't spend what you've already spent again.
As for a lot of people stopping using the bank, what are they now using? As far as I know all banks operate under similar conditions.0 -

i for 1 am not and nor are alot of people, who have been caught out by this system,I.E people who have been charged due to this, as for not using banks what they do is take the whole lot out, rather than deal with a fickle system such as this.0 -

And your blaming the bank again, when we have told you so many times, it's the SHOP. NOT the bank.
The bank can ONLY act on an instruction once it's got it.
Why do you blame the banks for all your issues? Howcome the whole of the UK seems to work under this?
Try sending £10 from natwest to HSBC or something similar. It's not going to happen instantly. Same with shops.0 -
I was always under the impression by what I had been told in the past that once a transaction is made the money is earmarked and therefore not available to spend. This should be the case, many of us who make regular transactions cannot always keep track of every penny that is spent. With technology today there is no excuse for the delay! I pressume the same people who are advocating the banks on this are the same guys who think it is reasonable with todays technology to still take 5/7 days to cloear a cheque!0
