Well, the BBC pretty much laid into Ashcroft and the woman who wrote the book, who tried to brush the thing aside as just a short paragraph about something that one person had mentioned to her. I agree that most people have skeletons in their cupboards, especially when it comes to events that occurred during their growing up days, when they tended to experiment with a variety of things, including gross ones. I actually find what Ashcroft has done far more sordid and irresponsible than what David Cameron allegedly did as a youngster.

A lot of people are far more worried about the serious issues that are facing us today, like the masses of illegal migrants that are invading Europe at the moment (fit young men who certainly don't look like any refugee I've ever seen). I would certainly not like to see loony Red Corbyn and his loony mates in power at this time…

    Well said Sapphire.

The insinuations seem to be no more than that from someone who is clearly not to be trusted and extrapolated by a paper in the same gutter mould.

I really can't see Cameron coming out of this all that badly.

Student high jinks ... so what ? It doesn't mean he can't do his job 30 years later.

No doubt the left will throw their arms up in horror and do their best to reflect as much heat away from Comrade Corbyn as they can. It won't be enough to persuade Tory supporters to suddenly start supporting far left policies.

By not commenting on any of this Cameron will be seen by many as taking the high ground against a bitter and twisted person who has stabbed him in the back.
  • This wouldn't be a particularly big deal if it were Boris Johnson, or someone else whose persona is based around being a privileged Lord Flashman.

But its not great for We're all in it Together Call Me Dave.

The fact he was in the Bullingdon Club, an organisation which as far as I can see exists for the privileged children of super rich people to flaunt their status in the most egregious ways imaginable, is already pretty difficult to reconcile with his man of the people image.

And yet Bojo is one of the few politicans with a positive rating. Not bad for a third generation Turkish immigrant.

Didn't stop him winning two elections. And besides, if he does indeed step down as PM, it will be of no consequence at the next GE.

This has come up before, you might have noticed the effect it had on the last election.

It's only the loony left and the chattering classes that are obsessed with people's backgrounds and class divisions.

In the real world people are more concerned with what people are now.

I've not read any of the revelations - I'm still traumatised from finding out out John Major had been diddling Edwina Currie.

Can't see why it matters too much. I'd rather a PM with relatively minor skeletons than a freak who didn't have any.

I really couldn't care less whether he has a man of the people image or not. I just want someone who will be able to run the country. He's by no means perfect but a lot better than the likely alternative - especially with Comrade Corbyn in the chair now for Labour.

I was worried you weren't really qualified to comment on politics, but then I saw you can concoct alliterative pejorations, and realised my fears were unfounded.

If posters want to discuss whether Mr Cameron stuck his penis in the mouth of a dead pig or not then perhaps there are other more suitable threads. I'm sure that there are several that smell faintly of ejaculate on the Guardian website for example.

It'd be great to get back to the economic policies of Mr Corbyn and if they are the answer what the heck the question is.
