in what way is the talk of the IRA a smear campaign?
Tim Montgomerie has been on BBC news shoehorning it in every opportunity he gets. And there's a lot of it on Twitter as well. There's no way the media won't run with it big style at some point. As will the Conservatives.
do you approve of placing bombs in Birmingham pubs, in busy town centres or hotels with the specific aim of killing people?
Do you not expect politicians to condemn this type of behaviour in clear unambiguous terms?

*hands in the air, nothing to do with me guv*. I was only posting reaction to McDonnell's appointment late last night. :)
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

I think many in the Labour party have continued to harbour hard left views but have kept a lid of them to give themselves a chance of power. I'm sure they got a lot of new members but I doubt many were anything other than left leaning, certainly not enough to make a big difference.

The question is why shouldn't everyone (even SNP supporters) have a view about a politician who actively supporting the IRA when it was actively engaged on a program of killing ordinary people in NI and England.

How is it 'unfair' to remind us everyday that Corbyn actively supported the IRA and indeed Hamas.

Now I know that the SNP, airbrush out all unfavourable aspects of their own past, but surely comment about murders and attitude to murders by a leader of a major UK party is a valid issue for discussion.

I hope it is mentioned and remembered every day.
  • Can you define what you mean by "active support"?

I don't always like my elected leaders being pragmatic and dealing with murdering scum, but understand why they do it.

Pragmatic is not a word I would use. McDonnell is on the public record. Words such as these say a lot about the man. So much so they will alienate rather than bring people together.

"It's about time we started honouring those people involved in the armed struggle. It was the bombs and bullets and sacrifice made by the likes of Bobby Sands that brought Britain to the negotiating table. The peace we have now is due to the action of the IRA." He later said that the "deaths of innocent civilians in IRA attacks is a real tragedy, but it was as a result of British occupation in Ireland. Because of the bravery of the IRA and people like Bobby Sands we now have a peace process.

Wonder what his views on ISIS are? As they do pose a huge threat to the UK. Only takes one bomb.............

....If the new members were the cause and the Labour Party of last month suffered a coup, then, were I a L.P. Member I would be trying I think of how to exorcise the incursion.

If it was not a coup, then the Labour Party has really changed at heart and (IMHO) is truly heading for the fringes. (Which I think would be a bad thing by the way).

80% of the Labour Party membership voted for Benn in the deputy leadership contest in 1981. The rank and file have always (as a general rule) stood well to the left of where the PLP is to be found.

Yes, but McDonnell was not an elected leader when he was "dealing with murdering scum" so there was no pragmatism involved.
