But an ex member of the IRA, Martin McGuiness, has in effect been 'honoured' since McDonnell made those remarks. He worked successfully from 2007 with First Minister Iain Paisley as deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland and has been so ever since. He has been presented to TheQueen and very recently met and shook hands with Theresa May.

I wouldn't call that being "honoured", just being practical and getting on with a necessary job. N Ireland will progress by moving forward to a shared future, not perpetually brooding over the past.

I thought all politicians going for a senior job would have someone go through their previous speeches, business transactions etc to look for the same thing a tabloid hack would want to find. If you've said something controversial at a F**k The Toffs Yeah! rally in your student days, you should be prepared to have to explain your comments to small c conservative voters. These are the ones that make a PM, not the party hardcore.

The latest rightist establishment attempt to unseat Corbyn fails miserably.

The PLP are fast reaching the point where they have no choice other than to suck it up and start focusing on defeating the Tories, rather than their own membership.

    As a Tory, I'm delighted too :)

How kindly do Corbyn supporters feel the general public will view all of this?

I think the polls are telling them everything they need to know ;)

No, the polls are telling the PLP everything they need to know. They just aren't listening yet.

Because they haven't had their enema.

Labour needs to provide a credible socialist opposition to the crass exploitative neoliberal creed of the Tories.

Because that is going to win over the people who voted Tory and UKIP at the last election??

    Not.

Neither Corbyn or Smith will win over Tory and UKIP voters with with Spend, Spend Spend and Tax the Rich policies.

There is no point whatsoever in Smith continuing this farrago. He should abandon his challenge immediately and submit to the democratic will of the membership.

What? And hand back the £5 million the LP has made?

I dunno, I voted Conservative in the last GE, Lib Dem before that. I certainly prefer Owen Smith to Jeremy Corbyn, at least I would consider a Labour vote under Owen Smith.

The report does point out that Tory voters don't actually care about any of this, either because they are rich and it doesn't affect them or they were duped into thinking that they are going to be rich if they vote Tory.

Or maybe they vote as they do because they see that the government are doing a good job, aren't the types to stomp around waving placards, and fully intend to earn a decent crust through working both harder and smarter.

That others want to gain said crust via different means steers their vote in a different direction, which means Comrade Corbyn will never be short of placard wavers.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

That is effectively what I said in the bit of the my post you did not quote.

But he has done that on Question Time last year. Perhaps you missed it.

    Anyway this is getting tedious.
Do not be fooled into believing that this society cannot be made fairer because hard work isn't necessarily all it takes.

They are listening. Question is, is it worth the bother. As they'll have better things to do with their time.
