Kenny indicated that the GMB conference, which would hear from some of the thousands of workers in the defence industry at 50 UK sites, would rival a CND Stop Trident rally due to take place in London next month.

    Should be a laugh.
“What we are about to do, actually, is to call a conference of the workers. Everybody keeps talking about the wonderful principles of Trident. But there are tens of thousands of British jobs involved here. We are going to call a conference. There are about 50 sites around the UK whose livelihoods depend on defence contracts, and we are going to ask those people what they think about the Labour party effectively shutting down their jobs. We want their voices heard in this debate.”

Funnily enough none of the Corbyn supporters on this thread have responded when asked why Maria Eagle had to be moved from defence for supporting Labour party policy on Trident.
    I think....

Kinda interesting that Mr Corbyn seems very keen to have his people wave his massive purple veined democratic mandate around but seems less keen to allow party democracy to prevail when he disagrees with it.

In common with most capable people, I know that I'm fallible, don't know everything, and can make mistakes. Those who claim their value isn't being recognised are usually suffering from what DK discuss in that they don't realise that their value is actually very low.
Yes I agree arrogance and self awareness don't make good bedfellows

These people will often already be being paid more than their "value", which is why they will struggle to find work elsewhere for the same/better salary. If a union then bullies even more money out of the employer, then said employee will be even more trapped, and the employer even less competitive. Bye bye entire industries

Just repeating the same error doesn't change the fact that it is widely accepted that DK's research and it's basis is discredited. Besides reading my posts will inform you that unions are not the bullies, their purpose is to challenge management bullying, - wrong way round Gadget!

.....not that I'm a Corbyn supporter as such.....I'm just more balanced in my views that the usual right wing McCarthyite headbangers on here......... but I'll have a pop............it may be that he intends to try and change Labour's policy on the issue and having a pro trident defence sec. doesn't assist this plan? It's hardly rocket science is it!:)

Thought I would look in again on this thread, probably the crankiest on this site. You Rentiers are really seriously worried he might force you to contribute to society rather than milking it aren't you? This is why:

If only it were true.......but this country's radicalism is pretty poor gruel. History has shown.....(Corn Laws, Chartist movement etc).... the privileged have an ability to give just enough away to stop real change ever take place....and of course they are always defended by their working class canon fodder types as well.....who are happy with the crumbs from the table of their betters.;)

Widely accepted? Citation required, I think!
reading my posts will inform you

It tells me what your view is and little more.

And now I haven't got a clue what you're on about. It seems to be some "class struggle" nonsense, which I've never had any truck with.

My parents both left school at age 14, both my wife and myself grew up in mining villages (her Wales, me Lancashire), but we've all worked hard, earned well, and I guess a lot of people would say we're upper middle class.

Personally I'd refuse to even discuss what "class" we might be as I regard it as being an utterly meaningless concept that belongs (if anywhere) way back in the mists of time.
