Thanks DIA, just having a chilling weekend and making lots of plans on the basis the dogs get on lol.

    Have a lovely weekend to.

  • Hi Tink,

Wondering if it would be easier to divide the journal into sections in advance...

I’m thinking of dividing up the book in advance so each month contains

a monthly log allow 1 page
a daily log covering (three on one page) 10 pages
an expenses page for each month 1 page

    Not monthly related

future log for the whole year divided into months (4 pages)
collections (books, films…) allow 6 pages
use pink highlighter for personal items and green highlighter for work tasks
    Index (3 pages)

As an expert bullet journal person can you see any flaws with this plan?

    Thanks Tink! :)

  • Morning DIA. That sounds pretty much the same as mine although I do have an unplanned expenses in as well so I can see each month where I make mistakes or if something triggers my reason to buy.

I have been in a notebook for about 5 months now and although I love it I would like to be able to move pages about so as a treat to myself I have just purchased an A5 ring binder from W1sh and have found loads of free printables like calendars, lists etc. I did have an old one but DD nabbed it when she started planning. I thought I would wait though to see if I stick with it.

You can always buy some of those cheap page flags to mark off different sections or just to show your current month. I also put a paperclip on certain pages so I can flick to them straight away.

Oh, I've also got an emergency page in it for DD just in case, and I also have a password sheet but it is in code lol so no one can understand it but me.

I think you have really done your homework and as far as I can see no flaws at all.

I'm really chuffed that I might have helped at least one person. Are you hooked on youtube yet lol. Some are too pretty for me although I do use different coloured pens for different things sometimes.

    Hope that helps.

  • Aww, bless you Tink for your full and prompt reply and yes it does help!

I am hooked on the youtube videos of bullet journals but they seem to go too far to me. Students, who have a lot of time on their hands and can turn their journals into works of art but I need to save time, not spend even more. Although, gosh, they are so pretty…

I like your idea about listing unplanned expenses and the triggers for them :)

I might create another collectables page called EMERGENCIES …Good thinking Tink.:)

I’ve spent the morning emptying my bag of note book, diary and countless notes, post-its, recipes and other MESS. I even had an old kitchen sponge in my bag as a reminder to buy a new one. Boy do I need this new system

Thanks for all your help and have a good Sunday

  • No problem at all DIA, me and DD have had a lovely day planning.

It did get a bit stressful when I couldn't get the printer to do her free printables properly but we got there in the end. She has a more fussy one with stickers etc. I even print free ones of those on A4 sticker paper I found in our local pound shop. She then spends the next couple of hours cutting them up lol.

I've started my Christmas lists today, cards and presents. I must admit at least I got all the washing done in between watching scary films. She is halloween mad so this will be it now until the end of the month.

I've also printed my spreadsheets off and stuck those into my planner so that I have a sort of track of where I am when I am out and about and I don't have my laptop with me.

Unfortunately we didn't get to walk the dogs today, I've not felt well enough and my cough kept me awake a lot so I've had an easy day.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

    Hiya Tink,

Sounds like a good plan, if nothing else like you say to support your mum as she gets older & save for your own future. It also for now free's up your flat for another family in need.

Be aware, when the inevitable happens, they may agree that they have a duty to house you but their only duty will be to offer you a suitable property, so perhaps if DD has grown up and moved out, a 1 bed flat somewhere.

That said, by the times this comes around you will probably have your deposit saved and be well on the way to buying your own forever home anyway!

I hope your dogs do get on. Meeting on neutral ground is a good idea, your mums dog may just show her dominance, and as long as Mr D is submissive they stand a good chance.

Mr T previously has never taken heed of any dominant dogs, though this weekend he was really told of by a little bully. He did for once in his life take notice and stopped trying to make friends :D

Tink and DIA, if you are including things like emergency info in your journal you might be interested to look at the FlyLady version, which is called a Control Journal. It has cleaning routines and other life admin reminders in.

I used one when I was doing full on FlyLady but I've gone a bit more electronic since then and I'm not sure I'd go back to the full paper version - for example if I were listing books I would do it in a spreadsheet so that it can be changed easily and saved online to access from anywhere. I do have one that outlines the value of things in the house for estimating insurance and if I were to start a detailed one I'd probably put them together.

I am putting off looking at bullet journals til the new year but will investigate then :D

  • I've never been one to take to my keyboard after watching a television program but I have just watched Addicted To Spending. Has anyone else seen it? What angered me most is Mr Richard Kosh from UK Cards Association. Why why why couldn't he give a straight answer? And also sit there with a smug look on his face. Yes, because you are making money from a lot of the people who use this site and lining your pockets with it. He probably because he knows that he would make credit card companies look bad. They are!!!! Just give a straight f***ing answer. Felt quite sorry for the lad they had featured tonight. £30k plus debts at the age of 24 but at least he is doing something about it and I think he has 7 years to pay it off. It was nice to see Step Change on there and the information they presented was very interesting. Wow Tink this is a side of you even I didn't know was there lol.

Ok rant over, sorry guys just needed to get that off my chest and you are the only ones that will understand.

On another note I have been to the doctors AGAIN tonight. Been given another course of steroid tablets and they have finally booked me in for the asthma test. I only walked from work to the post office today, 5 minutes at the most, and I was short of breath and my chest was tight. This is getting worrying as I don't want to ruin our London trip and I know there will be a lot of walking then.

Once again, sorry for the rant, I'm don't normally get fired up from things like this. Must be the MSE'er in me.
