  • Hi Tink

Have you had a look at the YNAB guides on their website? I think you're right about the debts going under tracking accounts, not budgeting ones, but the balances should reflect what you've currently got in your accounts. So eg if you're currently in your overdraft until a payment comes in, even if you're in credit for the month overall, you will show as in debit on YNAB. It does take a bit of getting used to but means I've got out of the habit of counting money I haven't got yet. (However, I am still flummoxed about the credit card tracking and need to re-read that one myself.) Oh, and YNAB do a weekly email with YouTube links and website articles which are often really good.

Go you for sticking right on track and it's great to hear you're so excited about your shop and about Christmas!

  • Thanks Rosa - think I'm getting there with the basics. Luckily the one thing I haven't got is an overdraft so that's not going to add to my confusion.

Had a busy cleaning day today. Got up quite late, feeling a bit under the weather with a cough that keeps me up in the night. When I did manage to drag myself out of bed I looked at our flat as if I'm looking through someone else's eyes. It wasn't pretty. So with DD's help we did a big deep clean and quite a bit of washing. I've realised now I had better not leave my washing until the weekend as its taking a little longer to dry now its not as warm.

Then we went through the place room by room to see what needs doing to finish them off and also what we would like to buy. Luckily there's nothing major, just pictures and a couple of shelves. We do still need the flooring for the hall so I'm going to try and get that before Christmas. The hall and kitchen still need decorating so they are going to be done in the next couple of weeks. I have all the stuff so I have no excuse. I'm just being lazy!!

Spreadsheet is updated now to the end of December and I'm pretty pleased with that as long as I can stick to it. I've got to or I'll be in trouble for London and Christmas. It's really keeping me going knowing that if I did overspend I'd pretty much ruin our trip. I've even printed the next three months off to keep in my journal lol. Maybe I need a little trip next year as another incentive to keep my spending frugal.

Think I also need to start making smaller updates but I'm really focused at the moment lol.

    Take care.

:rotfl: I love lengthy updates Tink, don't worry about it - sometimes it's so good to see it all written down :)

Little trips are my vice - but knowing that I can still do those things as long as I keep to budgets has been a massive learning curve for me.

Hope you feel better now the flat is spick and span too,

  • Did you ever remember which hostel you were looking at? PM me if you want and I'll ask DS1. He goes to the one near St Paul's soon for some A level fieldwork - they like that one as its quite central and easy walking distance for both sides of the river, covent garden, shops, food etc. But you need to be aware that the bells do ring every hour, half hour, 1/4 hour...though they said they were only noticeable at first. Reviews on the website are mixed but if its just a clean safe bed and bathroom that you're after then it might fit the bill.

I too do lengthy updates sometimes. I enjoy reading them too.
    Go you on the redecorating.
Glad you are having the trip to London. You've definitely earned it!

  • DIA can't wait for the trip now. I've just booked a lovely hotel that is only 6 miles from Tower Bridge for £118.00. This is for two nights and three people and I only have to pay 2/3 of the price so I think that is a bargin.

Joey thank you for the link. Hope you don't mind the pm I have sent for more info lol. You might regret offering advice lol.

I think we might have to skip the show as the seats I would like are a bit expensive. Unfortunately I am terrified of heights so would only be able to go if I could get low seats (is that the stalls lol) not sure, can't remember now.

Budget still on track but got two nights out this weekend and I don't know where the pennies are coming from for that. I won't be drinking a lot if at all as it has been months since I had a drink.

Oh I forgot to say, I enrolled at college tonight and start tomorrow night. Been so excited but a bit nervous now wondering if I will be the oldest and if I will struggle. I know I shouldn't but can't help it.

Payday next Friday can't come quick enough. Putting a bit away for the trip and also booking the train tickets.

    Take care.

Is the college course linked to your job or something in addition to? Im sure you will be fine. Evening course I would think would be all adults anyway, its bound to widen your social circle in time which can only be a good thing!

Thanks bellevie. Yes, its linked to work and getting full funding phew. I need to do this course this year and then another one next year. It really is good timing, I'm ready for this now. Even more organised at home so that is going to help.

Paid a little chunk of a debt today so that is going in the right direction too.

  • Well the course was a disaster, I'm so fed up as I was really looking forward to going to College and meeting new people. It looks like I'll be doing distance learning and be even more stuck at home in front of my computer. Oh well, I am going to make sure I pass anyway, not going to let small minded people get me down.

On a better subject, I have a lovely pen pal who lives in Germany and I've asked her if I can send her a sample of what me and DD are going to make so she can give me her thoughts on it. We both have the same hobbies in common so I know she will be honest with me.

I have also just found out that she is in the process of setting her own Etsy shop up, a bit further down the line than us though. She did say that she would love to see what we were making and she had thought the same thing about sending me some items to see how long they take to get here and what sort of condition they arrive in. How lovely is that? DD is made up because she also shares our hobby. I don't think it will be me keeping the items lol.

Still feeling a bit run down with a cough that is keeping me up. 4am this morning wasn't great. It seems I've not been totally well since we moved and I'm even trying to go to bed earlier to see if I need more rest but that doesn't work. Might have to have another trip to the GP if it carries on for another week.

Hope everyone is having a good week.
