Contacted them via live chat a little while back.
Waited 40 minutes in the queue. Got through to Dennis. Who asked for remote control of my laptop. When I declined he said he would send me an email with steps in and closed the chat.
Off I went again. This time Ron told me to start a system scan, check BITS was running and Windows update service was running, I told him I'd already completed these steps so he closed the chat.
It seems Microsoft help is as helpful as a chocolate fire guard.Sigless0 -
I'd just let them remote in to get on with it - at least you can have your lunch and stuff while they're doing :rotfl:
But yeah, going by what you're saying they don't seem terribly helpfulNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Decided to give windows 10 another go because I found th drivers needed for my graphics which is the maain thing I disliked the other day, so the display defaulted the everything blurry and huge.
Removed the stuff I dislike and sorted the drivers and so far so good so will give it a few days and see how it is.
Windows updates are happily downloading as I type.Sigless0 -
Yay
good choice. Glad your updates are working now.
I'm still having issues with the netbook so have nuked it again. Friend of mine got his (same model) to update to Win 10 without problems, but mine is refusing to, throwing errors about the windows updates installer - even the media tool wasn't doing either. If I still can't get it to work this time, I'll leave it in the care of said friend who quite enjoys computer challenges :rotfl: either that or I'll just chuck Linux on itNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Currently installing Win 10
So far, so good (hope I haven't jinxed it now)
Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 was still completely messing things up for me in Win 7 when it installed so instead of wasting my time trying to fix it, I rolled back and fired up the media creation tool...
Edit: all done, up and runningNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
I went to look at a laptop that was being upgraded this morning , it had been sat there for about 14 hrs trying to do updates.
problem:
the driver for the wifi was not compatible with win 10
the solution:
to take out a short Ethernet patch lead and carry the laptop over to the router
at which point it completed
on its first look for drivers/updates , it found a driver for the WIFI0 -
WiFi wasn't the problem in my case - I had the netbook wired in
It was that stupid Windows Update Agent for Win 7 that had borked BITS and other stuff - it was playing up finding updates on Win 7 and wouldn't run the W10 media tool either.
Took about 1h or so do to the update to W10 once I got the tool to work.
Still, the old N150 Plus is running surprisingly well on Win 10, bonus I didn't even have to go looking for drivers, which is just as well because I somehow doubt that any new ones will appear anytime soon, if at all, for it. The only thing that I've "lost" are settings for the Elantech touchpad but I can live with that quite happily - it's working as is, I just can't change settings for it.
All I use that netbook for is when I need an extra display for timing screens or streaming on-boards or twitter when watching motorsport, particularly the longer, multi-classes racesNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
I think it's something to do with BITS.
It keeps turning itself off. No matter how many times I turn it on I go back a bit later and it's turned itself off.
Today I've wiped Win 10 Preview from a Dell laptop.
I've reinstalled Win 7 Pro using the Dell disk, and after 4hrs nothing is showing any sign of updating.
Nothing else installed.
I remembered this thread, I've tried all the various Fixits, worked through the suggestions, tried the .bat files.
Tried the Windows Update Diagnostics download.
BITS was stopped, I've tried using all the start options and still it seems to have a mind of it's own.
Going for another reinstall at a later date when I have time.
The first time I ran the diagnostics download, it allegedly 'fixed' everything, I've just run it a second time, and this time not everything is fixed.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
have you tried the m/s win 10 page , scroll down and choose https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows100
