Hoping someone has an idea how I can fix this.

Wanting to download windows ten. But there's no option to do so. Windows said download the latest updates and I should get the alert.

Fair enough. Trouble being windows update just stays on 'Checking for updates '.

I left it for 48 hours and zero change.

I've spent two days googling and trying every supposed Fix for this I can and nothing has worked.

Anyone have any ideas?

Windows 7 btw.

Yes, several times it runs, says 'fixed' next to everything, nothing changes.

I did a complete reinstall of windows around 6 months back using the backup partition of the laptop. Reset to factory basically.

Updates worked fine then, I don't know when the last successful update was as one of Microsoft fixes resets windows update so now it just says I've never checked for updates.

I'm having the same problem with an old netbook on Win 7 (no intention of even attempting to upgrade that to 10 though :rotfl: )

Decided to give it a long overdue factory reset yesterday. It was happily downloading and installing a truckload of updates until it got stuck checking. I think the problems started when I was told by Windows Updates that I had to update Windows Update to be able to check for further updates :D which I did. Obviously though if I roll back to before that, I can't check for updates because, erm, Windows Updates needs to be updated to check for further updates. And when I do update Windows Updates to be able to check for further updates, the thing gets stuck checking for updates :rotfl: Still with me?

My dad got a sorry we've run into a problem message last time he did an update and it rebooted fine.

On Windows Vista after updates sometimes I've had a CHK disk message come up. Yet it says no bad sectors and is still going to this day.

Yes I read that when looking for fixes. But you can download the latest windows update. Which I did. It made no difference.

I've just run this for the forth time and it's actually given me an error code for windows update. 0x080070005

Google tells me this means access denied. There's a fix on microsofts site which unsurprisingly hasn't worked.

I'll give that a go at the weekend, and the fixit thing too just in case it does actually fix it (but not holding my breath given your posts about it)
