Yep, Am well aware of the OTP which is only done by mobile SMS not landline call.

Plus the OP stated their bank didn't have 24 hour number, Where as santander do.

I am interested in the part of this relating to the "ease" of setting up a Call Divert. I wish that it was so.

I am in the midst of an issue with Plusnet where a planned Business Office transfer of Phone and Broadband failed to happen.

After going through the security of Username/letters from password I asked Plusnet to arrange a Call Divert to another landline and they refused. They said it couldn't be done. I don't believe them. They said the only way Call Divert can be set up is from your own phone using the *21* facility - not much help when you don't have access to your old office.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Santander phone me on a landline.....and maybe the OP couldn't find a 24 hrs number? I lost thwarted will to live trying to find a number I Use to call for nationwide online banking once.

I've no idea for business lines but for for domestic lines this is true and is oft mentioned on the plusnet forums as a disadvantage compared to B.T retail.
The plusnet system obviously do not have the facility in them when you have a fault so that the line can be diverted to your mobile: in short you are knackered. (or in other words you want this, go and pay more for an ISP/telephone company that does - you want cheap this is what you get...)

    Going back to the OP
I'm surprised BT redirected the phone:
When I have had a BT line fault which is confirmed by the lineOK test when I ring them then BT WILL divert the calls as it is a 'confirmed fault'
When however the 'lineOK test' gives inconclusive results as it often does they do not.
In normal circumstances domestic lines users can only divert themselves if they do it from their own phone so far as I was aware but buisness line users CAN divert the business line from a remote phone. In fact I know of buisnesses with 'virtual lines' where the line number has never been allocated to a physical line but is always diverted to come in on another lines' number.

They never call me with the OTP, they just text it to a mobile. They will not text it to a landline, and they will not communicate the OTP by anything but a text message. https://retail.santander.co.uk/Estatico/ALP_LOGSUK_Logon/Html/migracionv1_FAQ_SanUK.html#o1

I recently had my landline redirected last week by fraudsters who reported my line as faulty then managed to take out a £20000 personal loan in my name.
They also had my card details which I have only used a few times to buy medical supplies which they later tried to use to buy other peoples personal information!!
As no money was eventually lost

The OP, and the people whose personal information was bought with the OP's card, were incredibly fortunate in that the entire scam was stopped in the very week it started. Moreover, it is literally unheard of to have it confirmed in the same week that no money was lost - that is nothing short of totally amazing. Congratulations to the OP and their bank for being on the ball. OP, can you please share the name of the bank with us?

Really? I've banked with Santander for years (since they took over A&L) and they have never called me with a passcode. They send a onetime code in text message.
  • This story has more holes than a string vest.
