Ideas for a student survival box!

A small rug/mat, the carpets in student accomadation leave a lot to be desired, so something to stand on in bare feet is great. A permanent black marker pen to label food etc we also gave our son a little plug in cool box / mini fridge so he could keep his marg, milk etc they sometimes disappeared in the communal kitchen. Also freezer bags or little containers.
I rote out list of recipes, what to have with baked pots, how to make spaghetti bog, chilli or just minc etc.
Remember to take tissues with you Hun you take him. X:)0 -
Sorry, not read thread, but teabags, biscuits, coffee and teaspoons were always in short supply in every student place I went. Plus it made some friends on day one when you cracked open the biccies to share.
And I guess a Hungry house/justeat account loaded up with a bit of cash would be most welcome.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Some great suggestions on this thread!
I would also recommend;
Duct tape (fixes everything)
Sticky labels
A basket or bag for washing so it doesn't live on the floor til wash day
A pen light (for walking back to dorms at night)
I had a great student cookbook when I went to Uni (the name escapes me now) but it included all the basic stuff that you might need to know, like how to boil eggs, bake potatoes and cook rice.Just Keep Swimming!0 -
Better still, if you haven't already, free your daughter from menstrual expense for foreseeable future and buy her a menstrual cup instead.0

When my kids went off to uni they had ensuite shower rooms. They were bought a pair of Marigolds, a loo brush and various cleaning products and cloths and given a demonstration of how to clean a WC. No-one else will do their cleaning for them. Students going into self catering accommodation also need a student cook book and to try some recipes out at home. Buying ready meals and take-aways is very expensive and will not usually provide enough fruit and veg.0

What is supposed to be provided in the Halls or flat he will be living in? And how many people will he be sharing with?
- A kettle for his own room may be a good idea unless he is going to be in a small flat.
- A big tin of home made biscuits or cake
- a recipe book
- depending on distance and facilities available, a couple of frozen, home made meals - gives him a taste of home *and* an easy meal. Only one or two, though, as he will have limited freezer space.
- key-ring with a token for putting in supermarket trollies. (Supermarkets in student areas know that students get drunk and steal trollies, They almost all have the kind you have to put a £1 coin in to get a trolly)All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
Change for the laundrette.
Paracetamol & nurofen for hangovers.
10 pack of pens & a couple of A4 pads for notes (unless they use tablets?)
An alarm clock/radio? (More as a joke; I'm sure everyone uses phones now.)
Emergency pair of undies & socks for when they forget to do laundry!
Air freshener/candle - gender dependent!0 -

Just a little tip don't put in the blue tack, it marks the walls and you could possibly loose your damage waiver deposit all rooms have pin boards so a box of fun tacks is a better idea.
Survival for parents keep a copy of their SLC funding, passport and drivers licence all of which get lost on a regular basis, I replaced 3 driving licences in the time my son was at Uni there....
Daughter now about to embark, have you picked up your HC1 form for free medical, e.g. condoms are free don't buy them!!!!0
