Forgive me, but that bank account can't be terribly important if you left it for 4 or so weeks?

By the sounds of it, you were not able to present the required ID today?

I have never heard of a current account eligibility checker - and tbh, I don't understand why you want one. More applications will just lower your chances of getting accepted, as has already been commented. You know that Halifax will accept you if you can prove ID. If you are unable to prove ID, you won't have much luck with any other bank, either. So your priority should be on sorting out your proof of ID.

BTW, you also never answered the Q why you want an overdraft. People are trying to help you but you also need to give information so they can.

There's not an eligibility checker for bank accounts.

With you missing the deadline, that search will show up on your CR, although not the outcome.

There is this information about banks to help you decide http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts

or this for basic accounts (just in case you get declined, these are not credit scored but do not offer overdraft facilities either) http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/basic-bank-accounts

I have proof of ID now so I could reapply for a halifax after tomorrow but I was wondering if there was any other banks out there that give out overdrafts as natwest didn't offer me one but halifax did during application, and it took time to get the ID, nothing is instant in the real world.

Just take your ID into Halifax then early next week and get it sorted. They'll still have a record of your account, and I doubt it will be closed by then.

I still don't understand why this overdraft is so important as you still have not said why you need an overdraft.

I'm very surprised you couldn't produce a couple of documents from the lists on page 4 of this document...

    http://static.halifax.co.uk/assets/pdf/SecurityandPrivacy/pdf/personal-information-and-identity.pdf

...in a matter of minutes, let alone within a month!

I certainly could, even if I didn't have a passport and/or driving licence or pay any utility bills in my own name.

I do have very limited ID so that's why it took me this long unfortunately.

It's just more of a security really if I did ever go into the red on the rare instance which will probably never happen.

Not sure for a basic account but they're just horrible. It's taken 10 days for a letter to arrive to me (according to paper date). I think they leave things to sit in the office for days before sending it 2nd class or sent via horseback.
They use an annoying calculator type verification setup the same as Nationwide & co-op but unlike those I'm still waiting on the HSBC one to arrive via horseback.
Their cards are also not activated by default so it wouldn't let me change my pin at the ATM last night as I still haven't activated it as I'm still waiting for the calculator to arrive via horseback.
My local branches are also pretty incompetent.

With Lloyds, Halifax & TSB I received everything I needed in a couple days and didn't need to send letters back and forth.

Halifax is probably best for you if they've already agreed. Surprised a bank would provide an overdraft when not working

That sounds very odd. Current account applications don't normally expire, and certainly not on a Sunday.

My HSBC advance application expired. I think they set a 30 day turn over limit but they randomly left my signed document in branch & didn't realise until numerous phone calls chasing them. At this point it was almost 6 weeks since my phone application was approved and they said I'd have to apply again (luckily the 2nd time only took about a week & I got compensated).
