  • Morning all :hello: and happy Sunday!!

Sorry to have been out of the MSE loop for a bit but loads has been happening.

Firstly, we are now in Cornwall - Padstow to be exact - staying in a beautiful cottage with two dear friends (owned by OH family member so staying absolutely free:))which is just brilliant from a saving point of view.:T

But boy o boy, you certainly pay London prices down here. Two pints of lager was £8.20 in the local pub (you can buy 4 pints for that up where we live) and we had Fish & Chips at Rick Steins on Friday night and it was £63 for 4 of us!! I think we'll be cooking at home and taking picnics. My YNAB holiday fund is taking a right bashing!!

Today we're going to church and I'm off to ring the bells before the service which will help the local band. I enjoy this. Then a good singalong to some cracking hymns!

I'll be back to post a bit later, but the sun is shining and it looks to be a glorious day!:A

    Hope you're all ok - I've missed you all!

  • Have a lovely holiday. £63 for fish and chips sounds steep.

Bell ringing then singing stinking hymns sounds great.

  • Evening all,

Well I'm totally bushed after walking the coastal path from Porthcothan Bay to Harlyn Bay, a distance of 7.5 miles. Not bad with a dodgy hip!! Beautiful scenery and gorgeous beaches under a blue and sunny sky. It did turn a bit windy towards the end of the walk but we made it back to the car before the rain started!

And it was free (except for the £4 car park fee schedule OH shelled out for).

We both love it here - it's so relaxing!

Here's to the next 5 days!

  • Oooh try Harbour Lights fish and chips in Falmouth if you get chance. Sure they will be cheaper and just as lovely. We always go there when we visit our daughter studying nearby.

Thanks for the heads up - I think we might be going there tomorrow.

Raining all day today so we went to Bodmin Jail, which was a bit creepy. It was £8.50 to get in but it was very interesting. Hangman nooses at every turn!! And haunted apparently!

Spending money hand over fist or so it seems. OH pays for some stuff, I pay for other stuff, so it seems like the money is leaving in huge chunks but really it isn't.

Night in tonight as its pouring with rain, but the cottage is 5* so we've all we need.
Falmouth & Truro tomorrow. Evensong at the cathedral I think, and then bellringing practice.

  • Morning all :hello: and it's great to be back home after our week in Cornwall - no matter where you go, you always get the best nights sleep in your own bed!!

Well we really enjoyed Cornwall but the drive back was a nightmare. It took me almost 12 hours door to door with the M5 being an absolute car park for most of it. It took 8 hours to get past Birmingham. The only saving grace being that when you're stood in a traffic jam, you're not spending money (other than diesel!!).

We really love Cornwall but both agreed that every year we go, it just gets ridiculously expensive. There are a lot of people jumping on bandwagons and charging the earth for not very much.

Anyway, at least looking at cliff views and walking on sandy beaches is still free (after you've paid to park your car!) I suppose.

Back home now till next Friday, then we are off on September holiday No 2 - a fabulous week with friends on a canal boat in Worcestershire. The highlight of my year because I really love the canals. I'd love to own a boat of my own - something to aim for once the mortgage is paid off maybe!!

So how're you all? I've missed you!
