Not quite on-topic but fitting in with the discussion about pensioners:
Why - oh - wh ydo they wait at bus stops from just after 9am when they know that their gold card can't be used before 09:30? smiley-confused013.gif

Everyday there's people who try to get on the bus at 09:26 and are turfed off to wait for the next one (it's only 10 or 15 minutes later on the services I catch a lot).

We refer to it as the 'wrinkly bus' - the first one after 09:30 which is packed with pensioners.

Or alternatively - we call them 'twirlies' as in 'too early'.

Really, I'm just annoyed because I'm not old enough to have a card that gives me free travel. ;)

There's no time restriction here for bus passes, that would stop the problem you mention.

But would likely result in pensioners cluttering up buses that are already overcrowded with commuters.

They may have hospital appointments, etc.

Any pensioners round our way who have a gold card have to pay if they want to travel on buses before 9:30am.

So it would make sense if they arranged appointments - hairdresser, dentist, doctor, hospital - for later in the day.

Not always an option. I had to rearrange a hospital appointment, which was a right pain in the backside. Ended up at another hsopital and had to wait another 3 weeks or so.

The bus I use most often is cluttered with school children ... pensioners don't stand a chance!

Then the only option is to pay to use the bus if you have to catch it before 09:30.

The point I was making back in post #158 was why do they have to catch the nearest bus to 09:30.

I doubt very much that it is to get to an apoointment as I don't think they would leave it that late in case the bus is late.

We call that the zoo bus.

I avoid that more than the wrinklies 09:30 bus. ;)

I don't know why the passes don't allow travel after 9am. Commuters are pretty much all at work by then.
