    Are you for real?
    Are you?
    Stop being so self centred!

Really. I have as much right as anyone else to shop, see drs, dentists etc when I please at a time that suits me.

Nobodies business if I am working or not. Or why I want an appointment at that time.

Think some people need to get over themselves. And learn everything is not about them.

I agree with you Calley. People should be able to book an appointment at whatever time they choose. People are talking about pensioners (one example) not taking up certain appointments, and they should book them at this time and they should book them at that time....well, how about they book them for when is convenient and suitable for them?

My Mam and my Aunty are pensioners, and they want nothing doing trailing down (if nobody is around to take them) to the doctors after a certain time for example (especially in Winter), when it's cold and dark. So, if the only time they can get in is a time when people think should be reserved for working people, then so be it. Pensioners have social lives too, and have things planned, and as such, should be able to book an appointment that suits them.

Sorry, but I also think the same should apply to those that are unemployed, signed off work through sickness or stay at home Mums too.
  • Calley has not been abusive, and the tone of some of the posts replying to them is unnecessarily aggressive. That in no way helps the discussion. It would be lovely if everything ran on time, but no matter where the fault lies, sometimes things just happen. Not necessarily that any one group are at fault.

I'm currently not able to work, and my health places limitations on what time I can manage Dr's apps etc.

Where did I say she was abusive?

    I never said that.

Quit making stuff up to suit your agenda.

And I am not being aggressive in the least, no matter how much you kid yourself otherwise. It's the self centred 'I shall do what I want and nah nah nah nah nah to you!' attitude from her that's making me angry. And this childish 'yawn boring yada yada' and this patronising 'go see the doctor for a chill pill' attitude. She is just being plain rude and provocative and it's laughable that you are not acknowledging it.

And although people have a right to have an appointment when they want as it's a free country, it's this 'I don't give a FIG about anyone else!' stance that is bang out of order.

A little consideration for others and a little less selfishness goes a long way...

People like this cry off and stamp their feet if anyone does anything like this to them.

Pure selfishness, that's what it is.

It's hard trying to fit ANYthing in when you work full time, and when people who don't work have such a self centred attitude, it makes it hard to get appointments.

Its not as if you get a choice in appointment times. They just get sent to you.
Same as Drs you ring in morning and they give you one. Are you meant to say sorry cant do that, in case someone who works needs it.

I work shifts and I'm often away for a few days at a time. I don't think leaving extra time for getting to work is a waste as I'd really be in trouble if I was late, even by 10 seconds. It gives me the chance for a cuppa before I start and having a chat with a colleague.

45 minutes for a 15 minute journey seems disproportionally cautious to me.

Think you need to take your own advice.

You have been aggressive and called me childish etc.

All I have said is that I am entitled to make appointments when I wish just like anyone else.

I have not ranted or raved or shouted or used lots of exclamations marks to make a point.

No matter how you word it you are still saying that your time is more important because you work than people who don't. When people give me consideration I will give it back. But with your attitude there is no way I would give you any.

I don't intentionally take appointments to annoy anyone else. I take what is offered to me. I will tell the receptionist that I am not fussy what time of day or what Dr I am seeing. And I am normally offered early morning or late afternoon.

So that means to me there is not much call for those appointments by people working. But I am not allowed to take those appointments just in case is that correct?

As I said I have far more important things in my life then to get upset about such things. And I have been through a lot carp in my life.

I don't work and the last few times I have phoned I have been offered a GP appointment before 8am which is the next available and is at least two weeks away. I always turn it down as it's just not suitable, however to get one later in the day is even longer at least three weeks. So it's easier and quicker in my practice to get an appointment at a time which suits workers.

Just held up in Marks today by four women having a chat between the rails. One was in a wheelchair so there was no way to pass them, or look at the 50% off clothes on the near by rails.

Some of the posts on this thread have baffled me so much I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not...
  • I must be the only person who really doesn't care/mind if sales assistants chat to each other while they're serving me, to be honest, I'm not interested in polite conversation with total strangers who are asking me stuff from a script, how are you today, sorry for keeping you waiting, would you like a bag etc etc, I just want to pay for my stuff and leave so if they want to chat away to each other as long as I'm getting served then I'm happy with that.

I do find it incredibly rude when I'm getting fuel if there's a huge queue for the pump and someone who has put fuel in, won't move their car out of the way before they go in to pay, sorry but that is just rude and inconsiderate, especially as its always the person who wants to do half their weekly shop from the petrol station too.

Appointments with doctors, well as a nurse, I know that consultants at hospitals get incredibly frustrated themselves as their appts are 5 minutes long and usually 4 people are given the same appt time, to allow for anyone who doesn't turn up, but also to hit the waiting time targets, there are too many people for the appts available.

I work, and as a nurse, I can't just take time off to go to an appt as yes I would say my working time is fairly important and maybe more important than some others considering the impact it can have on people's health (I work directly on people who are having a heart attack) so if I need an appt, then it really does have to be outside of my working hours as I can't just swan off for 2 or 3 hours in the middle of my working day, people's lives do depend on me.

I am a punctual person, and hate being late for anything, sometimes it happens for reasons beyond my control but I would always phone or text ahead to let people know if I was going to be late for anything
