I've learned the hard way as traffic can be difficult to forecast. You only need one silly driver to cause a delay. Sometimes I get to work very early, sometimes I make it by the skin of my teeth. I'm happy to leave for work at the time I do and I don't see it as wasted time, so please do not worry on my behalf0 -

Its not as if you get a choice in appointment times. They just get sent to you.
Same as Drs you ring in morning and they give you one. Are you meant to say sorry cant do that, in case someone who works needs it.
There are times when I've needed to see a GP and I get no choice at all.
I, and I imagine I'm not alone, also need someone with me at certain appointments. The only person this can be (because of my medical history) is mum, who works. The only day she can do is a Tuesday, unless she wants to take a day off work.
I know that at my old GP surgery for example, if you need a blood test, you can only get a morning appointment. There are also some GPs who only work certain days too.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Our GP has an evening clinic where you need to bring a recent payslip, turning up without a payslip for a routine appointment gets you barred from evening clinic in the future.
My dentist does Saturday's for private patients only.
The hospital I work in does evening clinics for everyone as they're just to try make waiting list targets.0 -
The last appointment I had in the evening, ended up with me being forced to listen to someone's screaming child run around. Not good for someone with sensory issues. I was finally seen 20 minutes late than my alloted time. My last appointment was 9am. I was in and out by 9.10am.0

I've been on both sides of the doctor-running-late thing.
One clinic I attended at hospital was routinely 2 hours late. The receptionists were forever explaining that the clinic was purposely overbooked. (If they knew it was overbooked, and would inevitably overrun by 2 hours, why not book it over an additional 2 hours so people got allocated a more realistic appointment time?)
Similarly, another clinical I attended was supposed to have 4 doctors on, and the time I attended only 1 turned up on time. (Anyone who has timed appointments booked in for them should be required to turn up on time, otherwise there's a knock-on effect on every single person who was supposed to see them that day. I find this very, very rude.)
Yet another was running an hour late when I enquired why I hadn't been seen yet, only to be told the doctor was in a meeting, but they "should be finished soon". (The meeting sounded like it was a regular thing... so why were patients booked at the same time as a regular meeting that this doctor was required to attend?)
These things are utterly unacceptable and a result of poor management. But as patients you can't always tell if the delay is due to one of the reasons above or if it's because of an emergency.
I had a routine 10 min ante-natal check-up with my GP last year when I was 36 wks pregnant. I'd felt dreadful the night before, but completely by chance I had this pre-booked appointment at 9am on Monday morningThe 10 min appointment turned into a 30 min appointment and I was sent up to the local hospital's maternity unit, admitted overnight and then given an emergency c-section the next day because my appendix had burst.
...that GP would have been running at least 20 mins late for the rest of the day
Genuine delays I'm fine with. It's the incompetence of overbooking and/or doctors/dentists not starting on time that I get annoyed by. It can be difficult to tell the difference sometimes.Mortgage when started: £330,995

Lol, I don't tend to see that but I do see older folk doing just that.
Yes I'm always seeing older folk stopping to update their Facebook page!People who stop in the middle of shopping centres (usually with prams) to have a conversation.
There are plenty of benches and places to stand that aren't in the middle of the walkway!
I understand why people stop for a chat but not where they do it.
As one poster said in the beginning some people are just not aware of what they are doing.
Life can be one big rush and people being selfish and stopping you getting on is frustrating, but I am sure we are all guilty of that at some time. Just think of all the frustration when driving a car, but that is a whole new thread - anyone! ?Holding back the years...0 -

I find the whole weekly shop thing a big problem as well and avoid petrol stations where there is a big store attached.
But I disagree about the moving the car thing - where should the driver move their car to, there won't be parking places for every car or even any space to move their car forward a bit without blocking everyone else. Also, you run the risk of being accused of driving off without paying and technically you should NOT move until you've paid. Lastly, I don't think the fuel is released from the pump until the previous person has paid, so you'd just be standing there glaring at the attendant's window for a while.
Having said that, I find the behaviour of other people at petrol stations infuriating - mainly the getting back into the car, putting everything back in a bag/wallet, doing God knows what, instead of actually driving away and letting someone else fill up.
I always pick pay-at-pump where possible, pick a quiet time and always completely fill up so that the next ordeal is delayed as long as possible.
