'Let buses pull out'. What's that all about? It's about me putting myself out so that bus companies can make more money.
It's in the Highway Code (223) that you're supposed to let buses out.
"Buses, coaches and trams. Give priority to these vehicles when you can do so safely, especially when they signal to pull away from stops. Look out for people getting off a bus or tram and crossing the road."0 -
And a couple more - pensioners using the first thing in the morning / after 17:00 doctors appointments, when they should be being used by people who have jobs to go to.
Granted there may be some reliant on bus schedules, etc, but not all of them!
As a pensioner, this irritates me as well. When I am in charge of making the appointment (say at my GPs) I always make it 9-5.
However, I have on 3 recent occasions had hospital / clinic appointments at 19.00. I suggested that my appointment be moved in order to accommodate people who are at work, but was told that this is the new way of working! So motorguy, if you see me, that's why!
Another factor with some elderly people is that they want a relative with them, whose hours have to be taken into account.0 -

I have even had some transactions where the assistant doesn't say one single word to me throughout the entire transaction, despite me saying 'hello and 'thank you.' Amongst other things.
So unbelievably and utterly, utterly RUDE.
Another bugbear of mine is the dentist, the doctor, the optician, the hairdresser...
I have yet to go to the doctor OR the dentist, and get in on time. I almost always have to wait 15 to 30 minutes after my appointment time.
One time my doctor's appointment was 8.40am (ten minutes after they opened,) and I wasn't called in til 9.05am. He was 25 minutes behind, by the SECOND appointment of the day! (The doctor turning up 10 minutes late didn't help either.)
I have also been to the dentist for 2pm before (the first appointment after lunch,) and he waltzes in at 2.07pm, and calls me in at 2.10pm, so he is already 10 minutes behind before he has started! 3 out of every 4 times, I don't get into my dental appointment until half an hour to 40 minutes after the appointment time...
(
I have to say this bugs me too. In addition to the doctors and dentist, I don't think I have ever gone to hospital (for an outpatient appointments,) and waited less than 90 minutes, before the doctor sees me, It's very exasperating. Like someone said earlier, I have also known times where the doctor in question has at least 5 appointments for the same time! Maybe it's to account for people not turning up, like when they overbook at hotels and airlines, but it's very frustrating.
I also get annoyed by never getting in on time at the doctors, I mean never. I guess some people take more time than others maybe, but I have also gone in on the second or third appointment of the day, and still been half an hour after my appointment time. Also happens at the dentists too. With the doctors and the dentists, I know if I have a 5 minute appointment, I should allow at least an hour of my day (10 minutes travelling time there, 10 minutes back, and at least a 45 minute allowance for the appointment,) Sometimes it may be 20 minutes after the time, but often it's longer. So I am taking over an hour of my life for a five minute appointment (Because my appointment rarely takes longer than that.)If I get ignored by shop staff & they are just standing around or chatting a loud "Do you work here? Oh you do, I'd not have guessed" seems to move their asses pretty quick. I can live with the dirty looks & sulky face, as long as they get on with their jobs.
LOL I will remember that. Maybe I shall do that next time! :rotfl:As a pensioner, this irritates me as well. When I am in charge of making the appointment (say at my GPs) I always make it 9-5.
Yes it is annoying. It seems also that pensioners (and other people who have all the time in the world,) think other people do too.I am always being kept waiting at the till by pensioners who are keeping the assistant chatting, and pulling out dozens of vouchers.
Oh and the shop assistants chatting amongst themselves and virtually ignoring me is a massive bugbear for me too. I think a massive retraining programme is needed for supermarket staff, because they all do it, and everyone I talk to says it happens to them, almost every time they go to one of these stores.0 -

Although thankfully I rarely see a doctor, you will find that the first and last appointments are available for "emergencies."
I discovered this when my 2 yr old grandson had a rash and temperature whilst in my care.Holding back the years...0 -
I must be really lucky. The supermarkets I go to have efficient and polite staff (Aldi and Waitrose). My hairdresser is always on time, as is my dentist. The doctor is rarely on time, but I'm lucky enough to not have to go very often.
Having said that, if anyone is blocking my way (as in standing chatting and I want to pass) I just keep saying "excuse me please" until they move, a bit louder each time. Works a treat. If I was on an organised trip and people were tardy, I'd pull them up on it. Tough if they don't like it. I used to have a friend who was always late. She was even two hours late for her own wedding as she was still sewing the dress. I used to tell her we were meeting an hour before we were actually meeting.
My job requires me to always be on time and being even 10 seconds late is not good enough, we get hauled in to explain ourselves. This means I'm pretty conditioned to be on time or early. I live 15 mins from my work place but leave an hour before, just in case.0 -

Our doctors does anything after 17:00 as "emergency" appointments, however you still get OAPs there taking up an emergency slot.
Likewise, i dont want to take up an emergency slot just because i cant get a slot around 0900 or 1700.0 -

Very true.
Bearing in mind how much "bricks and mortar" retail is on the decline, you would think a retail shops big differentiator and USP would be the personal contact with their staff.
Instead they seem more and more to employ people with the personality of bog rats.
I recently made some purchases in a sports shop and they were made "in spite of" the shop assistant, rather than "with the aid of".0 -

OMG, I tried buying a pair of walking shoes some months back from a certain sports chain, and it took me AGES to get someone to serve me. They were whizzing past me and not paying much attention to me. I couldn't just get the shoes in my size and take them to the till, because my size shoe was not available, and I had to wait for someone to go and get it.
It took 10 minutes before someone came to me, and then he waited with me while I tried on 4 different pairs of shoes. It was really awkward and I felt rushed, but he said he can't leave me due to 'security issues.' They HAVE to stay with the customer apparently. So annoying..
I am not overly happy with what I picked eitherThey are a bit big and rub my feet, and I have to wear really thick socks and my feet get so hot. (moan moan moan.
)
I shan't go there again though... I really felt pressured and rushed, when the assistant was standing over me. I like to take my time when making a purchase, and prefer to be left alone.0 -
I catch a train every day so I'm fairly used to things being late- it grinds you down after a while and you just don't have the energy to get angry about it!
One time I was amazed by though was at the hairdresser, where I was having highlights and a cut. While the colour was on, another woman came in asking for a trim and the hairdresser said she had time. However, just as she was about to start it became clear the woman didn't want a dry cut, but a cut and blow dry, which would have taken longer than the rest of the time on my colour. So they took the colour off my hair and told me I was getting a deep conditioning treatment which would take time to settle in- they even came back to check on it periodically and tell me it was nearly done, when I knew they hadn't put anything on it"I don’t keep up with the Joneses, I try to drag them down to my level" - Quentin Crisp0 -
People who stop in the middle of shopping centres (usually with prams) to have a conversation.
There are plenty of benches and places to stand that aren't in the middle of the walkway! Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016
