Dear diary, I have been ignoring you as my £ and lb plans have gone into freefall in a bad way :-( My first full month wage in the new job was quite depressing and this coupled with the car payments and a nearly £600 dental bill for the dog has hit me hard. In addition to this 14 nights on the trot either eating out or having takeaway has not done me any good. On the plus side I haven't actually put any weight on and most of the takeaways were free.

10 months to lose 1/2 a person seemed reasonable, now it is down to 9 months and I have only lost 4 lbs it seems like it is getting further out of reach but I know that I am the only one who can change the behaviours and make the change.

Tomorrow is another week but already I have 2 meals out with friends planned - excuses, excuses. Back to the fruit and veg at work so I can have a proper meal at home at night and I will get back on track. Reading back this thread it is already a catalogue of excuses so it is time to make that much more positive and get back on track.

I hope everyone else is doing much better than I am and has some positive success stories. I have been watching obese a year to save my life on tv and people are losing incredible amounts of weight in a short period of time (but all need surgery for loose skin) by showing determination and inner strength. I know I can do anything I put my mind to but just seem to be struggling to put my mind to this one...

    Hi Ali-T
Do NOT give up the free fall lbs! I would suggest either a high protein diet or the 5:2. Even one pound loss a week is better than nowt! Perhaps when you go out for a meal you can avoid the worst dishes?

Have you seen that TSB is giving an incentive of 5% for purchases of up to £100 per month with their contactless card? I'm thinking of trying to juggle that with my Halifax credit card! (which gives me £5 on a £300 spend)

As you see back from Ireland- that was last week, one full day at home and then off to London for a very posh (but lovely) wedding in Westminster last w/e. I think I have had 5 whole days at home since the middle of August- and today collected 20 old duvets to make into doggy duvets for charity, so no guesses for what I shall be doing for the next weeks, months, years!!.
Whilst I was in Ireland I bought the leisure club membership- but the monthly one had gone so had to cough up a lot more spondoolies- not good. It was probably good for me in other ways as I was determined to get my money's worth and went 6 days a week (Sunday was madness there- too many families with sprogs!) the last week I clocked up over 3 miles, swimming up to 3/4 miles per day. Now I am home I am aiming for 32 lengths rather than 20 but it depends so much on the business of the pool as with back stroke I need eyes in the back of my head!!

Back to the 4:3 diet .... a few lbs crept on.......but they will go.
Stick at it! and don't beat yourself up

    Hi there

Well I have lost a total of 10lbs since we began. ecery so often I seem to plateau for a couple of weeks and then I start to lose again and then I plateau again. I have realised I have to keep a really firm grip and not let too many "treats" slip back.

I wanted to have lost at least a stone by now so am a bit disappointed but I guess 10 lbs is quite good going really.

as for the £s - it's a disaster. I am gojng to,have to lend my son some money. His cat got run over and the insurance isn't going to cover the vets bill. He will, have to pay back though because it will come out of the house money so I will have to put that back.

I have also booked flights for my other son's wedding in Barcelona next year and insurance for my cruise, plus my car had to have a service, plus car insurance.

So my bank balance is looking very poorly.....

On the plus side I managed to reduce the food bill for September.

I need to try and keep the food bills down and also not go wild at Christmas. Ive got to try and claw back somewhere..

I would recommend 5:2 if you haven't tried it. I have lost 20lb since May (none of which was over the school summer hols) with a combo of 5:2 and care taken on the 5 days as well

Thats me now off on holiday for a week so starting a concerted effort to get a !!!!ing grip. I bought chris powells book so will get some inspiration there and had some great news from tsb who said they were paying me a £100 reward woohoo! Next day i got an oops we made a mistake email which was a shame but they have said they will credit my account with £25 as compensation but i havent seen it yet. Its a start though.

high protein is the way to go for me so its time to bin the bread.

Well TSB have come good on their promise to give £25 compensation for mistakenly telling me they were giving me £100. Is this a cynical ploy to get me to think they are the banking good guys and totally convert my account to them? Who knows but I've had £26.78 from them in less than 2 months which has got to be good!

Hope you are sticking with the losing weight theme too.

I just looked back at what I wrote on #3, and it still holds good!

"5 stone sounds a little bit drastic.......in a year? Perhaps just think I will lose weight from now on....every week... and celebrate that! yes, I am sure it is possible but if you have set challenges and fallen off the wagon in the past so to speak maybe you need a realistic goal, one that you can and WILL achieve!

Just stick in there and stay motivated.! "

By the way the 5:2 diet might save you money too. I calculate that my thin days cost about £2.50 or even less. (and that includes some smloked salmon!)
    Don't give up

I used my contactless TSB card for the first time today with the aim of maybe spending £100 that way and getting £5 back. It's going to take a while 'though, this purchase was for £3.30!

Hi Katiehound, I used mine today too but again it will take a while as it was under £20. Everything else I spent today I forgot to use the card.

The weight loss is incredibly slow. I am struggling with it but went to the zoo today and for anyone who has ever been to Edinburgh zoo it is an uphill walk to the top so we had around 3 hours of walking and a dog walk this morning too.

I have read Chris Powell's book about carb cycling and like the idea of that - it seems similar to a diet a friend of mine has been doing with great success - think it is 2 days fasting, 4 days moderate eating and 1 day cheat/reward. I like Chris' idea that you can't have x treat today but you can have it in moderation at another time in the week. I just need to get a grip. Did my Esta application today so another step closer - 269 days to go to lose half a person.

There is a 1/2 hour bootcamp class starting in my village which I think I will go to. It is a start but given how out of breath I was by the top of the hill at the zoo it might kill me!
