Good point lesson learned. The devil makes work for idle fingers and all that.
I have had a great but stressful week in the new job. It is mayhem but I think I am going to love it. Most days I went for a walk at lunchtime and didn't spend any money at work at all. I have been taking the tiny green and blacks dark choc bars into work (1 per day) and have taken carrot sticks, fruit and a protein bar for lunch. It is working well for me (4lbs off despite going out for tea twice last week). I haven't done so well at using the powerplate and weights and think I am going to have to set the alarm earlier to fit it all in each day before work as well as walking the dog.
I got paid for a mystery shop I did so that is another few £'s in the holiday kitty and am waiting for payment for another one. The lovely boots arrived but they are too tight so they went back today.
How are you all getting on this week? Any habits beginning to be changed into more thrifty, more active and less munching ones? Anyone done anything that I can borrow to help me on my way?If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Well done Ali - glad you are enjoying the new job. You might find that if you are happy at work, it will run off into other areas of your life and that losing weight and saving money becomes easier.
I think a lot of spending/over eating is linked to our frame of mind, comfort eating and comfort spending is very common isn't it.
Helpful changes???
food - I ditched white potatoes, substituting sweet potatoes which can be boiled, mashed or roasted just the same. Ive substituted mashed cauliflower for ordinary mashed potatoes. fewer carbs.
Ive swapped camomile tea for a hot milky drink at bedtime. Helps me sleep and fewer calories.
I go on holiday in NOvember and needed clothes. I spent £40 in charity shops and got some gorgeous things.
My dad gave me £20 petrol money this week because I had been his taxi service for several trips. I didnt ask, he insisted. I also raided my small savings jar - £10, so in effect that was £30 towards my new clothes.
I empty my purse every day and put all the shrapnel into a money box, that becomes my treat money. I buy a lot of clothes from charity shops - I get some fab gear and save a small fortune. Win-win. More often than not the small savings jar pays for my chazza shop bargains.
Do you have a garden. This week I have been harvesting raspberries, so many that I have been freezing some for winter. At £2 a punnet, I must have saved a small fortune. I have raspberries and Greek yoghurt for breakfast. Delish and dead cheap and of course, very healthy, and very low carb.
This week I shall go foraging for blackberries and sloes. Sloe gin - mmmmm :rotfl:0 -
Hi lessonlearned, welcome back. Some great tips there - where are you going on holiday? Its a cheap time of year to get holiday clothes in the sale. I have never made cauliflower mash before but it sounds lovely. I luuurrrve cauliflower.
I do have a garden but am terrified of bees and wasps so we don't grow anything in it. The chickens have a large pen in the garden and the rest is grass and tarmac for the dog to play on. We thought about growing veg in raised beds but neither of us are very green fingered.
This week I have been having a meal replacement shake and an apple for breakfast and a banana mid morning followed by carrot sticks and a bar at lunch and then at around 4pm a bit of green and blacks chocolate then normal tea in the evening. I haven't felt deprived and have still lost lbs so hopefully next week will go the same way. My old job involved sitting down all day but this one I can stand up or sit down so will make a point of standing and wandering around fidgeting to use up some more calories.
I also set up my £550 monthly payment to the tsb to get higher interest so things are starting to improve. Have just got to keep it up.
Off to lift some weights and go on the powerplate - away to make like Taylor Swift and shake it up...If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Hi ali t, as someone just back from a holiday of a lifetime let me say DO IT, and definitely lose the weight doing up my seatbelt with no extension belt was fantastic! the journey was comfortable for the first time for years.
Many congratulations on the new job and creating new habits you are doing really well. I think the habits are very important it is easy to hold onto the bad ones but it is great to make new ones. The walking at lunch time sounds a good idea. Looking forward to following your success.0 -
Thanks, i still follow your thread despite falling off the 100lb wagon very early on. So far this morning the dog has been walked and the chickens cleaned out so having a quick mse break before doing something that involves moving but not eating - havent decided what yet. Happy sunday everyoneIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

good morning all.
Ali you are doing really well with your exercise - you are putting me to shame. I haven't managed any actual designated exercise as such but ive been more active, a lot of housework and Decluttering This week, plus finally finsihed clearing mum and dads house so lots of humping stuff around and trips to the recycling centre.
More manual, work this week too because we are starting a decorating marathon, so I guess that's keeping the activity levels up.
Lost another 2lbs this week, so total loss in two weeks stands at 8.5 lbs. I'm feeling very happy at that.
Obviously the weight loss will probably slow, down from now on, but if I can manage 1lb a week That will be good enough. Hopefully if it comes off at a steady pace then it will stay off for good.
I'm learning a lot as I go along and I realise that I need to,think, long term so rather than just thinking about losing weight as a "diet" I'm trying to,think of it as a way of eating for the rest of my life. Eating for health and vitality and all that.
Good to,hear that you enjoying your new job. Excitimg times....
You asked where I'm going on holiday.
Well as I mentioned before my husband died on 10th August last year. He had been ill for 9 years, so we hadnt had a proper holiday in over 10 years. It was the 1 year anniversary of his death so to mark the occasion imbooked myself a holiday.
and what a holiday......hopefully....... A 33 day cruise round the Caribbean. Very naughty, but as everyone has told me, after being his carer for so many years, ive earned it. I know he would approve.
Anyhoo...I set sail on 7th November so if I would like to lose 1.5 stones by then, just 1 stone to go.
My son gets married at the end of next May so I would also like to lose another 2 stones for his wedding.
So two,big goals - they are a bit tight but I think they are doable.
After that then maybe another 1 stone by Christmas 2016.
I weighed in two weeks ago at 13st 13.5lbs, so as near as dammit 14 stones. I would like to be 9.5 stones but I will settle for 10 stones if necessary. I'm currently 5ft 6ins, used to be 5ft 7ins so starting to shrink a bit with age so it's even more important to shift that weight.
I'm on a mission........:rotfl:0 -
Well done on the weight loss lesson learned, that is amazing in 2 weeks. I stood on the scales this morning and have lost 6lb in a week and a half. The exercise has ground to a bit of a halt too as it has been rainy every day so no walking at work.
Wow, a 33 day Caribbean cruise sounds amazing. Mine is paling into insignificance in comparison. It is my 40th next year and don't want to be fat, frumpy and 40 and am going on a 7 night southern Caribbean cruise and then going up to Vegas to meet friends to do some partying up there. I need to be much slimmer and much richer to do this. Its baby steps at the moment but hoping these will lead to a real sustainable lifestyle change.
I am still sticking the eating very well during the day but struggling a bit at night and not sticking to it well at the weekend. To lose 6lb shows just how much rubbish I have been eating which is scary!
Good news on the finance front too with a refund on the lovely boots that didn't fit and an item selling on ebay. I also got paid from the old job and the new job today which was great and more than expected - happy days!
Hows your mission going lessonlearned - any strategies for coping at the weekend when there is less structure there?
How is everyone else doing? If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Good morning Ali
Well done on the 6 lbs weight loss - go you !!!
Well I'm retired so I don't have an imposed routine any day. I set my own schedules. Tbh I ate more rubbish when I worked than I did when I was at home. I found it much harder to eat properly when i was working all day and then having to cook at night and feed a family.
My problem this week is DS2 is at home on holiday. We are decorating and he needs snacks to keep him going. Yesterday I did eat more carbs - purely for convenience - so today I'm going to try not to.
Do you know why you struggle at weekends - do you eat out of boredom. What sort of things do you normally do.....do you get up later and put your body out of sync......do you eat different foods.
I know we are all different but I do find that if I eat carb laden snacks then im hungry again within a couple of hours, whereas if I make the effort and prepare a proper light meal then I feel fuller for longer.
Perhaps if you adopted a more "work like" timetable or regime that might help, ie sticking to the same meal and snack times as you do during the week.........??
Your birthday trip sounds fab.
Good that your finances have had a boost. a couple of ebay sales for me too - only £20 but every little helps.....:D
I do have loads to sell - due to all my decluttering, both My own stuff and mums. I didn't have time to get it organised so just boxed it all up. Once ive finsihed the decorating Im am going to get selling. All proceeds to the holiday fund......
Nice sunny day here - time to,get cracking.
Off out to,lunch today with some visitng relatives - will do my best to make healthy choices off the menu - definitely no pudding......0 -
Hoping to join in with you guys please!
Just got back from our holiday and after spending the first part of the week feeling sorry for myself with how I looked and felt, I spent the 2nd half determined to do something about it when we got back. The aeroplane seat belt only just fit - under my tummy, breathing in etc and once I'd got it on I was a sweaty mess and didn't take it off the whole flight for fear of not being able to do it up again! It's really not funny!
To make things worse, my hubby has finally got a new job with much better pay (which is amazing!) but he's on his feet all day and the lbs are literally dropping off him! I now weigh 3 stone more than him and I feel rubbish. I actually do have a whole person's weight to lose, I need to lose 10 stone to get into a healthy bmi range and it is so daunting. I've lost 10 lbs so far, but that's taken weeks.
So today for brakfast I have had 40g of porridge made with 1% milk. I plan on a healthy wholemeal sandwich for lunch without any spread and then meat and veg for tea. I have a bad knee and a sore back which are not helping and are obvioulsy weight related, although the knee is resulting from an injury a couple of years ago. I plan on walking all of the school runs in a couple of weeks, and drinking more water and healthy fluids in a bid to flush it all away!
Will keep popping in to see how everyone is getting on - we need to start these changes now so we don't regret not starting them in the future0 -
Hi Lessonlearned, my routine at the weekend is binge binge binge. I am always up early and a lie in at the weekend is 6:30am. I don't tend to eat breakfast at the weekend and just eat loads of crap. The same at night if I don't really try not to eat and don't have anything in the house. If there is any chocolate or sweet stuff in the house I can't think about anything else until I have eaten it - Hi, I am Ali and I am an addict :-(
I think at the weekend I am out and about more and my partner never eats before he leaves the house then decides an hour later that he is hungry and I don't like to miss out so end up eating out too. Basically I am greedy and hate missing out so join in every time - that sounds really pathetic when it is said out loud and written down :-(purpleposting4 wrote: ». I was the same on our last holiday. The seatbelt fastened on the way out as I had been doing low carb but ate myself silly and it had to stay on during the ride home or I might not have got it fastened again.
I am loving my new job and on my feet quite a lot so using more energy than before where everything was at my desk. Now I am walking more and although it sounds ridiculous, even walking to the photocopier, bin, water machine is another bit of movement to jiggle those fat cells into submission.
I am not doing so well on the food front today, was suckered in by the sight and smell of someone eating a filled roll at work so had one and then had a fry up at home. Weirdly the thought of both of them was much better than the reality so my leaf may stay turned!
All the best to everyone and welcome aboard the fat girl thin journey xxIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
