Thanks Katiehound, I now have a TSB account and will use it for saving for the holiday and a bit of money recycling.
Well done. Hope that is the Classic- paying the 5% interest. Sign up for paperless billing and paperless correspondence.

Once you have that up and running maybe time to look at a.n.other!
I really like my Halifax Reward as it gives me £5 per month if I fulfil the following conditions: Stay in the black. pay in £750 pm, have 2 x DDs going out pm. (Not too hard the DDs- council tax, power, water, telephone, credit card.) (The £750 does not have to be "earned"- some could be recycled too!... and of course it doesn't need to stay there in full)

No more words from me for a while- I'll be falling off the wagon eating yummy food on a cruise!! 16 nights to Canada (& back). Will try hard not to eat too many naughties and hope to dance lots every night to work it off.

Press on with the £ gain and lbs loss! :T

Well a good day today, substituted mashed cauliflower instead of potato on a home made shepherds pie to reduce carbs. Just as filling and quite tasty.

Bought some healthy nibbles so will see how I go with the customary evening munchies......;)

Don't give up on your losing weight target, just move the goalposts! I still have a target of 100lbs in 2015 but have only lost 40lbs so far (I say "only" just in context here!!)

I am fairly sure I won't make it to 100lbs but I'm still keeping it as my target - but I'll be really pleased to get as close as whatever it ends up being.

I think what I'm trying to say is that it's wise to drop the idea of failing when it comes to weight management. For a lot of people it's a lifetime thing, and falling off the wagon is pretty much integral to the process, at least it is for me.

If I see falling off the wagon as a failure, I give up on management altogether and then go on to gain a lot more than I lost. I'm not saying everyone does, but it is a familiar story to many.

    Keep going, and good luck!

I sure did katiehound. One step at a time, my heid will be birling with all those bank accounts. Looking forward to hearing about your cruise - one part of my holiday next year is a cruise and ive never been on one before.

jpscloud, i need to change my mindset - you are right, it is a journey that i will need to be on for my whole life. Essentially i am a greedy mare and exercise phobic so need to change that mindset or it will forever be a battle i am fighting rather than a success that i can keep on top of. The new job i am starting has a gym and swimming pool so i am toying with joining and making it part of my working day but i have a gym at home and rarely use it. Hmm - less thinking and more doing is required methinks!

just a final thought on thinking - do any of you have any views on whether trying to trace back and work out the root cause of overeating and overspending is useful in tacling the issue. Is it just naval gazing or does it have the ootential to unlock the solution.

I do think a lot of eating/spending problems can be traced back to events in our past or perhaps they can be a reaction to our upbringing. I think emotions can play a big role in our behaviour patterns.

Identifying these issues may well help.

I know that both of mine can be traced back to my childhood and that having sussed them out ive been able to move forward.

The spending is well under control now and i now finally understand my food issues. I think that's why this time I have more confidence that I'm will finally be successful at losing weight.

Only time will tell of course.

However this time I realise that it's not about dieting as such but that I need to completely rethink how I want to eat for health and vitality.

Very interesting lessonlearned. I have always been greedy and very food oriented - if i had been born a dog i would have been very easy to train. I always felt that i was missing out as i didnt get as much freedom or pocket money as my friend so when i hit secondary school and on leaving school where i had much more control of my food intake and spending, i ate and spent because i could. Unfortunately that has never left me - i buy and eat as a result of wants rather than needs which is why i am fat and skint.

this thread should help to keep me on track with spending and saving that has been thought out and no more mindless eating. Well done lessonlearned for taking control, hopefully with a lot of effort and a bit more thinking i can get there too.

Are you writing down everything you spend your money on? I know I sometimes look at my bank account and wonder where did that £5 go. (I then realise!)

No but i probably should as it would definitely focus the mind. I will maybe do it for a month to see what i am spending and try to cut out any non essentials.

I would second keeping a spending diary. It really helps keep you on track.

I have no debts now but I still record all my spends. I bank online and make sure I track of all my accounts too.

Sounds a bit OCD I know but it really helps me.

Well today ive stocked up on healthy stuff. Ive not eaten grains, apart from a couple of crackers.

Ive made some small tweaks. No bread, cake, biscuits etc. substituted cauliflower mash for white potatoes, reduced sugar in hot drinks from 1 teaspoon to 3/4 and substituted camomile tea instead of hot milk or drinking chocolate for my bedtime drink. nothing too painful.

Ive been eating clean and Paleo style. Don't feel hungry or deprived.

I really hope it works this time.

I'm sick of feeling tired and exhausted all the time, sick of feeling fat and ugly, sick of aching knees and feet, sick of feeling sick and unhealthy.......,

I really want to do this.

Good on you lesson learned. I want the same outcomes as you - im fed up of being tired, carrying nearly an extra person around with me and giving in to the sugar cravings all the time and basically feeling like rubbish all the time.
