It has been a couple of days since I posted and have been busy trying to get active. I have been on the powerplate every day, have started lifting weights (thanks to the weightlifting guide to women) and had a brief shot on the elliptical trainer - brief because I was breathing out my !!!! after 2 minutes. The poor old dog has had good length walks every day.
I have managed to avoid buying any magazines or newspapers and haven't bought any chocolate - but have eaten every bit of chocolate in the house. I also returned 2 items of clothing from different shops totalling £58 whereas previously I wouldn't have bothered even though they didn't fit or I didn't love them - definite progress!
I have looked at the bank accounts for moving money around but not sure if I can do this as at the moment I live hand to mouth each month so it would defeat the purpose if I get overdraft fees. I might set one up to save for the holiday to boost the coffers a bit.
I am going to meet a friend today and when previously we would have gone for lunch I suggested we could go for a walk rather than go to eat anything or spend money - get me! New leaf is officially turned over.
I saw on another thread on here someone who uses an app while she is running that is a story that involves being chased by zombies. I am not a zombie fan but could do it walking with a jog (or fast walk lol) when getting chased by the zombies. That sounds quite appealing and might get me off the sofa.
no movement on the weight front but heres to up with the £ and down with the lbs
Zombies, Run! is great. You use your own music, so it's like starring in a movie, with the best soundtrack ever. And it makes the time go by so much quicker. I think there may be a couch to 5k version as well.
It might help to look into meditation as well - if you get accustomed to allowing distractions and sensations pass in that, allowing emotions to pass without getting up and making something else to eat/opening a packet of junk gets easier.
I'm hoping to start a summer job soon (I work in a school). If I get it, the bus stops 100 yards from the leisure centre and it's a twenty minute walk (downhill, thankfully!) home. The extra money would make it possible to go there in the first place, and it's so tempting when I've done the journey for interview and various pre employment things just to drop in for an hour or so.
I've had a few glitches in losing weight, but I didn't actually put anything on - I think my body needed to adjust to its new smaller size and I wasn't able to exercise for a while due to illness. Now it's beginning to come off again, and mainly appears to be off my middle, which is good, although weird when I can't see anything beyond my boobs - I'm used to seeing tummy and thighs there!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
With the pop it might be best shopping around. Like if you drive and get it from home bargains you can probably get it for 50p ish (I know cans are 30p but not sure on bottles) which while a small saving if you put what you would have spent in a jar it will soon add up.
I've battled weight for years and am a classic yoyo dieter, but am getting there slowly. I do think you need something to aim towards(for me it's Australia) to keep you on track - it doesn't always work.
Will be following and willing you all on:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

I think I might join you today too if that's ok
OP you sound exactly like me! I've got 4 stone to lose, a diet coke habit that comes and goes and I have chickens
I just started a new job that's walking distance from home so that's immediately saving me £17 a weekthere is particularly nasty hill on the way there so that helps too
The restaurant/shop at work is disgustingly, rip-offingly expensive - a 500ml bottle of DC is £1.65   and it's cheaper to buy a ginsters at £2 than the cheapest sandwich at £2.80   so taking my own lunch, mostly of salad is the way forward for me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. Hi Ali. Thanks For letting me join the gang.
I also post on the frump to fab thread where we talk about make up, clothes etc and all things fabulous.....
Re the magazines - do you have access to a library, some of them stock magazines. I get my magazine fix that way.
Well after frightening myself half to death after jumping on the scales to today I have got off to a good start with healthy eating, hardly any carbs. I'm grain intolearnt and always feel much better if I avoid all grains and starchy carbs so that's what I'm aiming for.
I don't have a fizzy drink habit nor a particularly sweet tooth. Cheese is my downfall, so I'm just not going to buy it other than for cooking. I will grate some mature cheddar and keep it in the freezer, this might help me. Its nibbling chunks of cheese when I have the munchies that is my biggest weakness.0 -
Hi Ali
I was going to suggest that next time you meet your friend for a walk take your munchies and drink with you- that way you can control both the spending and whats in the "hamper".... and if comments are made make a joke of it. You could go to town on hard boiled eggs, crudities and a piece of fruit.
There's no point having an overdraft whilst trying to save money! But think about those current a/cs that reward you for the future. The easiest one might be the TSB cos it has no DDs and £500 can cycle in and out so you could make that a 'rainy day' account.
Onwards and upwards! Thats the ££s, and downwards with the other lbs!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Thanks everyone for the support and welcome to everyone who has joined the journey. Last night was a disaster on the food front but today is another day. I had a kondo clear out of the food cupboards and threw away the OOD flour so we couldn't have the homemade scotch eggs which were going to be protein packed as they were to be made with musclefood sausages. These would have been had on a bed of salad and it was my first experiment at having them with still runny yolks. The man of the house then went out for takeaway pizza and chips and I was too weak willed to not join in. I am really disappointed with myself but today is another day and the sun is shining to should get more exercise done and be less tempted to eat rubbish. On the plus side I haven't had any diet coke all week and don't miss it at all - progress.
I am going to start using the zombie app but I find the voices quite annoying on it.
Thanks Katiehound, I wasn't sure about recycling the money in and out of the TSB account or if there had to be a minimum amount at all times. Good idea as a rainy day account. It time to go perk hunting!
Lessonlearned, I am the same as you in that I lose weight quicker when I give up carbs. It seems to make me deflate quite quickly but I luuuurrrrvvvve carbs. Time to decide which holds the most value - immediate gratification or long term health benefits. Hmmm, I know what the answer should be...
queen of cheap we have a spooky amount in common. I am starting a new job next week and although it isn't walking distance I will get a lunch hour which is unheard of in my world and plan to use it to go for a walk each day - every little helps and all that. Should help clear my head in between sessions too.
Off to investigate whether I can open a TSB account online and have another shot on the powerplate and try to up my time on the elliptical trainer to 2.5 minutes - oooh I will be an Olympic athlete in no time.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

This is exactly what happened to me, lost a lot of weight, maintained for about six to 8 months and then got sick and started to pile it on. Back in the gym in the last 2 weeks and my eating is definitely better but def needs an overhaul. Uve just remotivated me. Hopefully mine will start to come off soon as well. My problem is I'm and all or nothing person, when I am good I am very good and when I am bad I am very bad.0 -

there was a little girl
who had a little curl
Right in the Middle of her forehead
And when she was good
She was very very good
And when she was bad she was horrid
:rotfl:
Got off to a good start yesterday, even managed to not nibble in the evening.
evenings are my danger time when I get the munchies.
I think I will need to by some healthy snacky tyoe stuff, otherwise that's the time I raid the biscuit tin....0 -

Yep, that is me down to a t! lol
Healthy snacky type things are a must. That's what I find my problem is sometimes out of laziness / tiredness / not being organised lifting something unhealthy.
I've finished my low calorie crisp selection and I'm not buying anymore. I have a few packets of ones I don't particularly like in the house so I won't touch those now. :rotfl:
Snacking is hard. I have one - two pieces of fruit each day if I go over that it stalls my loss and isn't great on my stomach.
Cheese is my biggest downfall! I have to buy the already sliced cheese not very mse but if I cut it or grate it myself I've no self control.
I also try to limit processed meats and only eat one yogurt a day so snacking can def be a challenge!!
Quite truthfully I'm better off at the gym in the evenings and away from the cupboards !!0 -
Thanks Katiehound, I now have a TSB account and will use it for saving for the holiday and a bit of money recycling. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
