I guess we all have different priorities. For me, I would rather have a smaller suitcase than 3 pairs of dressy sandals.
My suitcase is a medium Tripp one, not that big.
    I can do 2 weeks with 15kgs, 4 weeks with 20kgs.

My suitcase is carried downstairs, put in the back of a taxi, wheeled into the airport, put on the conveyor, collected at the other end, put on the bus and wheeled to my accommodation.
    Hardly a big deal.

Actually my sandals are size 2 so 3 pairs of my dressy sandals probably weigh the same as a size 7 pair of ecco ones. ;)
  • I want those purple sandals!!

I tend to stick to 2 pairs of shoes max when travelling as I try and go hand luggage only.

With regards to clothing at home, I have a wardrobe and 3 drawers full. I actually have more LARP kit than clothes *blush*

Maybe you don't go to places where you get dressed up at night? But surely you can't think teaming them clod hoppers with a dress or smart trousers and top looks good? Different clothes/different shoes for different occasions.

Surely "stylish" just means to follow the current fashions? You can still look smart without being "stylish".

That isn't my interpretation of stylish. It is perfectly possible to be stylish without following the current trends. In fact, in the right circumstances, even those purple sandals could be part of a stylish outfit.
As for what people wear on their feet, I would never notice unless they were hobbling around in something ridiculous (e.g. Flip flops or high heels when walking on rough terrain).

As you have admitted that you have no sense of style, that isn't altogether surprising.

Firstly, I get a little fed up with the backwards snobbery towards people who *do* like to wear 'nice' clothes on holiday and take a big suitcase. I'm not that bad but I do fill a suitcase when going away, and I do take more than 2 pairs of shoes with me on holiday, and I do steer clear of ugly shoes because I don't want to look ridiculous but I don't think that's any worse than people who take 2 outfits and pride themselves on how light they travel. There are more photos taken of me during a 2 week holiday than the rest of the year put together so I want to make sure I look nice, so what's the harm in getting dressed up on an evening? I also agree that 'stylish' and 'fashionable' are not one and the same thing; I tend to look stylish over fashionable and am happy with that!

Secondly, OP I don't think you have an unusual amount of clothes but by the sounds of it you could do with a cull! I have a double wardrobe and in the dead space in the wardrobe under the shorter items of clothing I have a plastic set of drawers for underwear, pyjamas and t-shirts etc. It is full to bursting but without regular clear outs I'd easily fill 3 wardrobes! I agree that you should look at the Kon Marie method as the simple question 'Does it bring me joy?' helped me get rid of an awful lot of things I'd been hanging onto for years simply because they cost a lot even though they didn't fit or were past their best. The charity shop has done very well off me! :)
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

I have a feeling that some of us who like "ugly" shoes would think that it's others' shoes that look ridiculous.;)

Dressing up for me = putting on a dress, which I do most days on holiday in a hot country. We don't really "go out" (by which I take it to mean bars and nightclubs late into the evening) because you can't really do that when travelling with kids, but we do go to nice restaurants, and I'm not aware of the other guests wearing significantly different clothes to me.

As for "clod-hoppers", I'm a size 4 so my sandals look reasonably dainty, whatever the style.

I accept that I'm probably the exception here but I don't see the point in owning more than around 6 pairs of footware in total, let alone taking that many pairs on holiday with me. I'm away at the moment and I have my Dr Marten boots, my trainers and my Ecco sandals. We're not planning on doing any fine dining, but I accept that a smarter pair of shoes/sandals would be useful in those circumstances.

Also, those of you who do "go out" a lot, do you need a different outfit each time? I take maybe 2-3 dresses on holiday, which will do for a number of evenings each, assuming I don't slop something down the front.

Edit: I've just looked up "stylish", which is defined to be "fashionably elegant". I tend not to care about the "fashionable" bit, but that doesn't mean I don't know how to be elegant.

Just because you can't see a point, doesn't mean that there isn't one. Maybe you should open your eyes a little wider.

I think you probably are - but that doesn't mean you're wrong and it doesn't mean that the people who have more than 6 pairs of footwear (I have at least 10 pairs of Doc Marten boots/shoes/sandals) are wrong either.

I will wear a dress twice on holiday so for 2 weeks I'll probably take 6 drsses to wear in the evening.
  • I'm such a stickler for travelling light that I wash stuff when I'm travelling *blush*

I did a week's work trip in France with 2 pairs of trousers, 3 tops, a dress, a pair of shorts, and a swimsuit, plus assorted undies/socks and a pack of washleaves.
