'Stylish' is not a top priority for everybody, shocking though that may be to some!

Never-the-less, I would have thought that somebody without any sense of style at all might have noticed that that many (most?) other people do like to make a bit of an effort.

Wipe the dust off and they also suffice for the evening. But each to their own...

Edit: these are mine and they do for all purposes

I have a very similar pair that I wear for most of the holiday, but they would just not cut it what so ever when you're dressed up for the night. It's really not a good look looking all smart clothes wise and then them on your feet!

Most people take at least a couple of pairs of shoes. One for day time and a dressier pair for night, it really isn't that unusual tbh.

I usually take at least 3. Walking shoes like the ones above. A pair of trainers incase we're doing activities, and a dressier pair (or two) for night time.

Exactly what Mrs G did on our recent Med holiday. Actually, she also took some beach shoes and a pair of flippers. Like I said, she likes to have the appropriate footwear for a given activity.

Surely it depends on how dressed up you get ? The only time I get dressed up enough to need heels or any kind of dressy shoes is for a black tie dinner and I very rarely attend those on holiday.

If I'm going somewhere hot I'll take my trusty crocs and a pair of cheap black flats for the odd occasion we go to a very good restaurant. Most evenings I'll change into a smarter pair of trousers but keep the crocs on. Once you are sat at a table no one can see them anyway. Crocs have the advantage of being really comfortable to walk long distances in as well which helps when you are staying in a city.

I'm just back from a month long road trip across the States and managed with a pair of Merrell walking shoes (not boots though) and my crocs. I only took the Merrells as I knew it would be cold at the start of the trip. I managed quite well in some very nice restaurants and very good hotels. I'm not really bothered about what other people think about my appearance though so long as my OH is happy.

    Obviously. :)

We go to Vegas, and for the main, we eat in say diners, or restaurants that don't require you to get dressed up. You can just go in in your shorts and trainers/walking shoes etc. Same goes for a lot of shows, people don't seem to get dressed up much anymore.

There are a lot of really lovely restaurants too though, and these do require dressing up smartly. So, if I'm dressed up all smart, I want an appropriate pair of shoes to match....not some walking shoes that have been on my feet all day.

Surely "stylish" just means to follow the current fashions? You can still look smart without being "stylish".

As for what people wear on their feet, I would never notice unless they were hobbling around in something ridiculous (e.g. Flip flops or high heels when walking on rough terrain).

My Ecco sandals and Clarks trainers usually do the trick for most types of holiday (and I add a pair of Brasher walking boots if I'm staying in the UK). No need for anything else, I've found. Wipe the dust off and they also suffice for the evening. But each to their own...

I am always amused by the people who think they can manage a day tramping about ancient ruins (e.g. Ephesus in Turkey) in a pair of flip-flops and no hat :rotfl:

Edit: these are mine and they do for all purposes

They may be OK for you but they just would not do with my long jersey dresses that I like to wear on some of the holidays I take (nor would Clarks trainers).

I do take somehing similar (pair of leather Teva sandals) for days out sightseeing (I do agree about flip-flops, btw) but not for a night out. I would take a couple, maybe 3 pairs of dressy, flat sandals for a 2 week holiday and travel in my Teva sandals.

I don't think it does mean that.
I've got some very nice sandals that I've had for a few years so aren't in the current fashion but are still - imho - stylish and very appropriate with the dresses I take on holiday.

I wear nice sandals for me - not for the beefit of anyone else.
I don't care if anyone looks or doesn't look at my footwear.
If I'm happy with the clothes and shoes i'm wearing, that's enough for me.

I guess we all have different priorities. For me, I would rather have a smaller suitcase than 3 pairs of dressy sandals.
