Had a mortgage too long - it's going, going, gone!

I definitely think that a garage is for cars. I can't understand why someone would buy a house with a garage and then stick the vehicle on the road and put cr** in the garage. But maybe they like going out in all weathers and defrosting the car. That is not on my to do list EVER. That is what you do when it is really really cold and you get stuck, not a thing that you do as a matter of course

Very true Patanne, can always tell the 'screen scraper' and the 'garage keeper' drivers
. Suspect the popularity of heated front screens will rocket now F0rd's patent has run out and other marks are adding it to their models.
I've had a Tidy Friday today and am ahead on housey tasks, useful as we've morning haircuts and will lose that time at home. Mince defrosting for a batch of chilli to be made tomorrow night and will probably get some stewing steak out the freezer and have the slow cooker bubbling away on Sunday. A quick sort through the 'tin and jar' shelf and tonight is a sweet and sour pork - will be one left over for the freezer.

Feeling quite chipper today Lil, considering I overslept this morning (again)
... a good job DS sets his alarm too.
Good luck breaking the back of the Xmas shopping early - will be worth it.Back on the DFW Wagon:

Glad you're well, Ali.
Certainly agree re. the garaging.Heated front screens are horrible, though and would not recommend. My mother has one in her current Defender (owned by Ford until recently, so an option on LRs), seeing all the little lines running down the screen I find is awfully distracting. She finds it annoying too and is looking forward to not having that 'feature' anymore.

Already got one Alex and I agree, the zig zags are distracting in 'white' weather (fog and heavy white cloud) but otherwise, I've gotten used to it and don't notice it at all. Other downside is the cost of replacing the windscreen, really expensive apparently.
What will your Mother change to? Remember you taking her with trailer to look at...a Jag?Back on the DFW Wagon:

She ended up buying a very low mileage Daimler Double Six, spent a bit having it recomissioned and uses it most days. Seriously nice car and at low teens MPG at best rather annoys the eco-freaks. Father's Jag has seen better days, I reckon the rust will probably be terminal come the next MOT
, so they'll share the Daimler as he very rarely drives now. We've a Daimler in the family also as I bought a Series I XJ6 not long ago, lovely cars with lots of memories for me (sold Z3 and TR7 V8, still got my GT6, the Disco and 5 Series).
The Defender is being swapped for one of the very last ones. She's devastated about the end of production and ordered 3: one for her, one for me and one to be put away for my son until he's old enough. Can't really see her using it much as I reckon driving one everyday has become a bit of a chore for her (won't admit it!) and father finds climbing in and out of them very difficult. I'll be keeping my Disco for longer journeys as I find the Defenders really quite uncomfortable but they're fun for local trips and a bit of greenlaning. First ever new car for me though and quite exciting.
Any new cars on the horizon for you?2018 totals:

Sounds good Alex and a new car for you too - so there's going to be one sat around for another 11/12 years for Little K? Are you going to run it or will it just be stored ?
No new cars on the horizon here, mine will be 2 years old come March and paid for. Plan being by time it likely needs changing, mortgage will be paid off and with DS turning 17 in 2 years, quite a good car for him to use eventually. All his lessons will be with an instructor though - I am not that brave :rotfl:
Daren't go near a sports suspension with the neck disk problem now - a jolt could seriously upset it. The benefit of having had 2 lower disk issues and resultant surgery is knowing how careful I have to be.Back on the DFW Wagon:

It's going to be carefully stored. So, son will effectively have a brand new Land Rover for when he's 17, lucky boy. I still plan to restore something like a Spitfire or MGB with him over his teenage years. Getting the car for him meant a lot to my mother, personally I do think it's a bit silly but she sees it as something he'll hopefully have to remember his grandparents by (they are close). Currently, she's convinced that she won't be around to see him drive.
That all sounds far too sensible, Ali! In my opinion every new driver should have something they can learn to fix for themselves. I'm really quite looking forward to teaching my son to drive but do think some formal lessons are a good idea too these days.
As for sports cars, there's more to life than those. Nothing glides quite like a Series Jaguar, much softer than modern cars.2018 totals:

Can't add anything to car discussions - my current car is a blue one
- but another one who used to garage her car at night all Autumn, winter and spring. Life definitely too short to scrape screens. No longer have a garage and not needed as no frost
- but Mr GG worried about sunlight affecting paint!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0
