I guess the best scenario (as in Dave's case) is that they take responsibility for regrading my exchange, refunding the 'premiums' I have been paying and then offer a much cheaper future deal, in line with operators such as Sky (£16.50 pm for 12 months).

You've been paying less with PlusNet than you would have been with Sky, line rental wise. It's the BB that's dearer with PlusNet than with Sky as they are charging you for Market 1. Sky's normal price for BB is £10, PlusNet is £9.95.

SSE is cheaper with line rental at £12 and BB free for 2 years.
why does this so seem so difficult for PlusNet to do?!!

Have you asked them for a deal yet?
  • SSE isn't available from our exchange. Even if Sky's normal price is more expensive, we would have a discounted rate of around £16 per month for 12 months and then we would look for another competitive deal.

The contact I have had with PlusNet so far is to establish the market position with exchange. I want to armed with all the facts before I try to negotiate another deal (and it would already appear by Dave's response that they are not giving straight answers to cusomters)

If you go through Topcashback you can get £115 if you're already a Sky customer or if you're not a customer already you could get £73.50 plus a £100 voucher or other offers.

Try asking on the Community forums about the Market 1 issue. PlusNet staff there are more helpful.

I'm pretty much guarantee that they are, Try putting your postcode and phone number into their website. When my minimum term was up they pricematched SSE for me (on fibre) but it did mean a fresh 2 year minimum term.
  • So which supplier is SSE piggybacked off of?

It's just another BTw reseller which is why it's very unlikely you cannot use them.

You can also get cashback for switching to them.

Is fibre not available to you? It is available in the exchange.
  • Ah ok.

the fibre thing is odd; the village has been told no fibre as yet (in fact local councillor is campaigning to get exchange upgraded) so not sure why SamSays would show it as having fibre??

    I've no idea.

Go along to Sky's website and put in your details there to see what you can get. Do the same with the SSE link I gave you earlier.

Very interesting BrewerDave that PlusNet 'regraded' your exchange themselves! So much for you having to take it up with Ofcom yourself! Do you mind me asking which exchange you are on?

Sully exchange in South Wales -code is SWXUU

Shown as Market 1 on Samknows and Market 1/A on Plusnet Usertools sites.;also Kitz is still showing it as Market 1.

In PN's terms and conditions it does say that PN can make a decision to reclassify a non low cost area (Market A) to a low cost area (Market B) -but doesnt say what criteria they use -I never got an answer when I asked the Q after I received an unexpected (but very welcome ) cheque in the post earlier this Summer.:)

EDIT -Sully is a relatively small exchange with only ~ 1350 premises so don't think its based on numbers of PN subscribers.
  • I wouldn't bother using Plusnet. I've had the worse changeover experience ever. I've had to give up my number as they didn't request to port it. Then had to spend ages on the phone and internet chat to even get a phone line back and activated. Then tiu don't even get your broadband activated at the same time and it's a further 3-5 working days after the phone goes live. Then, they didn't even send me the router and I had to contact them AGAIN to get it sent. I work from home and am studying too and I've lost working hours. I will also be submitting my assignments late.
    Worst experience ever.
If you need internet, don't bother with this company. They are a joke.
