The sad thing is that rather than agreeing to disagree some people start treating those who think differently as idiots for holding an opposite view to theirs.

Time to move on I think.[/QUOTE]

what annoys me with this argument is the premium fuel fillers who believe they are better drivers/above everyone else/more in tune with their car.

i drive around 30k miles per year.fill up wherever is convenient,be it with tesco or shell or the local indy down the road.to those who say their engines cannot run on supermarket fuel i say take your car back to the manufacturer and ask for a full refund as they have produced an engine which is incapable of running on the standard specification required.see what they say
Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.

Yes, like 2.0TDI VWs - says "Caution - will run lumpy on supermarket fuel" on the filler cap

    :rotfl:

Still don't think he actually owns a car, just a forum lurker.

    You said "lumpy".

"lumpy" is certainly not running ok.

Have you booked your car in with VW yet to see whats wrong with it?

Why should I , it is running a dream, serviced 5K back and I intend to keep it running the same by you know what.
However my new car is now at the dealership, must confess it is not a diesel but 2.0 TFSI 180 ps , did not fancy the AdBlue technology the new diesels come with.

Because clearly if it runs "lumpy" on non premium brand diesel it has a problem as no other VW diesel i've owned or come across has ever run lumpy on non premium brand diesel.

So its either a fault, or you try to use it as bragging rights in your VW, you being a "discerning driver" and having such a finely tuned performance car that simply cant run on "normal" diesel. I'm sure the laydees in the office are very impressed

All joking aside, can you not find something more interesting to have depreciating like snow off a ditch than a brand new VW? Must cost a fortune in depreciation each change. Wouldnt be so bad if it was for something worthwhile.

Precisely , exactly my point, however my filler cap just says "DIESEL"

There are different sorts of diesels , some for economy and some for power . If i had a newish Golf GTD , 330D Bmw or similar i would be putting premium fuel in my car as the cost would be negligible . Afterall i had opted to buy power over economy by buying those cars . If i had bought a Golf Bluemotion diesel i would be after economy , wouldn't I ? But DPF's are a big problem as is the idea that diesels are not as good for the environment as they first thought . So petrol will have a resurgence over the next few years imho. We will be replacing my wifes 2008 Mini Cooper D with the petrol version soon .....Anyone want to buy it ? £5300
