It may run right but on premium fuels it just runs better. Discerning owners can differentiate.
You just told us your car ran "lumpy" if it didnt get Shell or BP?anotherbaldrick wrote: »
All i know is that my VW TDI runs fine on shell or BP but lumpy on other outlets including supermarket.
I dont think having a car that runs lumpy makes you a discerning owner - it just suggests your car has a problem and you dont even realise. :rotfl:0 -

Do they give the tanker driver his own bottle and giant mixing paddle ?
Have you ever tried to mix two oils ?
Is there any definitive scientific test of fuel brands and chemical analysis of different additives.
Or is there just one huge religion like bull of the descriptions and marketing shine and spin about whats added to all Diesel as an anti caking agent and lubricant.
If there really is a magic juice added to brand name, where is it, what is it and what real proof it exists and makes your engine "live longer" is there.
That is exactly how the additives are added. The tankers will add various additives depending on the brand they are delivering, the product in the tanker before additive will be exactly the same and the tankers deliver to a whole number of different forecourts, even the branded tankers!
Tesco (and indeed all retailers) also use additives, do you really think they are that much different from anyone elses? Since most fuel is sold through supermarkets its not surprising if more people have problems, doesn't make it an inferior product.
Branded petrol is all snake oil, fuel is made to the same standard no matter who its being delivered to.0 -
Isn't tesco fuel esso anyway?0

It does not have a problem if I use Shell or BP, so in my book all fuels are not the same , so I run on the fuel my car likes and this makes me very happy. Some oafs would not know the difference. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -

Bear in mind though that Diesel engines need to get hot to clean out the carbon and soot. Make sure you use the full rev range every now and again. I always found that a long uphill was good for this as it'd keep the turbo under full load for longer.
Fair play. I run a 1.9TDI Ibiza and after 20k on Morrisons derv, the EGR valve wasn't happy. Granted, although it wasn't showing issues when I bought it, I don't know how bad it was to start with or what it had run on before that.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Bless.
You do know a car is an inanimate, mechanical device?
If its telling you it doesnt "like" something, that translates here in the real world to something is wrong with your engine.
If your 19.TDI VW "liking" premium brand fuel makes you very happy, imagine what your world will be like when you discover "real" drivers cars.... :eek:0 -
I use red diesel and swear by it, plus its a lot cheaper than the service station/supermarket. My mate Ken gets it for meOne man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0

Yes. it would be better for your engine - contains a percentage of oil so has better lubrication.
Of course, entirely illegal to run in a road car.0 -
