Such a shame when people on MSE don't want to become MSE.

Did you know Santander123 also pay cashback on both council tax and water rates. Whether you pay them monthly or annually, if they are via direct debit, you'll be able to earn on those bills too.

Not even half that much for me - and it's the way I like it! I wanted to cut down on my monthly outgoings, you may think it perverse it's how I operate.
I do think so, yes. My dad's the same though, so you're not on your own. He's 84 so it's probably an age thing, like with you?

Personally I pay monthly for two reasons:

    1. I get to keep my money that little bit longer, and make a little interest on it.

    2. It also evens my spend out over the year, enabling me to better budget (not that I need to as I'm financially secure).

There's actually a 3rd reason (although I'm not sure if I'm living in hope with this one!)...if I, and others, pay council tax up front, there's less urgency for the council to chase up those that don't/won't pay their council tax at all!

It's a shame when people on MSE think its OK to get spikey with others who don't follow their every move. MSE isn't a cult.

And age has nothing to do with me paying my council tax all at once, I could take offence at that remark if I could be bothered. I've always paid my council tax that way, and poll tax before that.

I could go into three or four reasons why but won't, but be assured I am financially secure, enough to be able to chose to 'retire' six years'ish years before my SP date. Just as I chose to pay one particular bill upfront.

That's a great piece of advice, many thanks.

No, I spend exactly what I have to - what you mean is I'm entitled to not earn any more interest than I am able to.

    Yep. That's about it.

You may do as you wish with your money, of course, but it's not correct to say that you couldn't earn more interest in this situation.
