Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1NL £189.99
Same as post #16, but black and £10 less. I wouldn't want a purple laptop unless perhaps I was a girl.
Full specs here Far superior to the Lenovo in post #13.0 -

These are the basic specs....
It's a Dell Inspiron 1545 model.
Genuine Intel (R) CPU T1600 @1.66 Ghz which I think identifies it as a Celeron processor.
RAM is 3,00GB.
32-bit operating system.
C drive - 218.20 GB.
E drive - 14.65 GB.
F drive - CD- ROM disc
I'm definitely not an expert but I'm guessing the above indicates my computer is a long way from being the most powerful and high tech out there, but it's always served me well for my, admittedly, simple computer needs.
So, when the time comes to replace it, I'm not expecting to need anything of the highest quality.
Once again, thanks for everybody's help and advice.0 -

Is there something wrong with the machine mechanically? Is it running Vista or Windows 7?
A back up and clean install is all that is necessary if things are slow. Can also up the RAM to 4GB, install an SSD and a 64 bit OS to Turbo-charge the thing for around £50.0 -

Thanks for that, I've just bought one. I didn't fancy the purple one either."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

No, it's working well enough at the moment.
I thank you for your suggestion, but I wouldn't have a clue how to do what you suggest. Also, would you agree I probably don't need to do all that stuff if my needs are quite simple?

Thank you.
Very simple to do any or all that I have described. I can guide you through each step. Really no need to purchase a new laptop unless you need a longer battery life.
With these simple upgrades, your laptop will be much quicker to start up and respond.
All options are user-upgradeable. In other words, no need to get a technician in. It is really that simple, unless you have some kind of visual or digital impairment.
You'll be impressed with yourself and the performance of the laptop.0 -

However, further down the line I may well need the help you so graciously offer, and I will be sure to contact you if I need your assistance.

I don't understand why you started a thread about buying a new laptop, if your laptop is fine.
Was it meant for someone else?0 -
