Coincidence or what. I was looking in Cash Generator in Kidderminster today and they had a (Lenovo?) laptop with Windows 7 for £199.
I didn't ask about warranty or anything, but it looked a reasonable buy."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Get yourself on Ebuyer and order a brand new one for £169. You'll have it by Wednesday and it won't have someones dodgy hard drive on it. The spec at either store will be nowhere near this either.

NB argos refurbs are 12months warranty.
Many thanks, I never knew of this particular retailer, i.e. Argos through Ebay.
One thing that struck when looking was that there were no Dell computers, wonder why that is? At one time Dell were quite prominent on Argos.0 -

Thank you.
I'd shop a bit harder that's a celeron N series, they are quite slow.
This is £199 but a core I3-4005U, much better processor and graphics.

My friend has an Acer Laptop he'd received from Christmas with said processor. For general day to day browsing/checking emails it's not too bad in terms of speed. It won't set the world on fire but it's "okay."
Having said that the laptop you've linked to was originally £349.99 at Argos (and currently £279.99) so that's a decent saving (and the reviews are mainly positive). It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -

The CPU in that is about 2.5x faster than the celeron.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
In slight defence of Cash Converters, you can get something worthwhile but you have to be prepared to do a bit of work. I got an absolutely pristine Acer Aspire One Netbook for a good price. (The laptops will come with whatever operating system was on it, they don't wipe them).
Popped in a bigger RAM, reformatted the hard drive, installed a fresh copy of Windows using the Windows licence sticker on it, downloaded drivers from Acer. Job done. Its no ball of fire but its dual core and capable of quite a lot of tasks, sits on the arm of the sofa and is rarely off on an evening.
There is a lot of tat on cash converters for sure, but I do find the descriptions reasonably honest and they will often take an offer 15% below the listed price. I am currently keeping an eye on the site as my daughter will need a laptop soon and I want a Windows 7 machine.
You can get cheap new laptops but most have pretty weak processors.0 -
On more than one occasion we have "found" our corporate devices in the local pawnbroker stores (different name, not Cash Converter, and may only be a local group with a few outlets). Found is a misnomer, they had not even removed the corporate asset tag.
Check carefully what you are getting, the big chains may be more stringent with checking of sellers IDs and providence but its anyways a potential issue.0 -
CG - I paid £180 for a Dell laptop, with a fair spec, though battery was dud (not charging- was advertised as such, though i didn't think to check on cost of a replacement!)breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??0
