hi all, it's my undrstanding that all of thelenses you buy from vision express are hardcoated, wether or not you pay the extra for hardcoating.
the reason for this is it halves the amount the stock, and thus space, needed to store lenses in the branch. note this only applies to 'one hour' spectacles - if they need to be sent away for manufacture, eg. if you have a complex prescription, they you get what you pay for.
i know this is the way it works at my local VE, and i think it's company policy nationwide.0 -
i have signed up to post in this thread.
i work at debenhams.
we dont push the necter card anymore because debenhams are starting their own reward scheme if you have a debenhams mastercard.
you get asked to open a store card everytime you make a purchase because the staff get £2 for every account we open. we have targets and if we dont hit them or dont ask every customer we get named and shamed (in my store anyway) most of the clothes, especially the kids are exactly the same as BHS but with a designer name put on them.
they have got rid of customer service departments because of the number of complaints. no customer service department in store=less complaints becuase staff dont record them properly.
the average cost of say a pair of jeans in the childrens department is £20, we can sell them in the sale for £5 and still make around £3 profit!!!!!!!0 -
working in retail i found that if the customers that kicks up a fuss when refused refunds ,ect then the managers tend to give you what the customer wants, als its always worth while getting a name and asking for thier head office adress as the store managers dont like it going that far .0

Years ago I used to work in Asda, and they used to do a deal match, whereby if you brought in a leaflet from another store with details of offers currently on, asda would match this price on the product. I haven't seen this advertised for a while but it would be handy to know if it still applies.
I think the stipulations were that you had to bring the leaflet with you, the offer had to be a current one and the other shop must be within a certain distance of the asda.
I hope this makes sense, this is only my second post, and I got told off for my first one as I put it in the wrong place!0 -
I also worked at holland and barrett for a year. The staff get a basic wage per hour as normal, but then also get a commission for sales of holland and barrett own brand products. So if you wonder in and pick up seven seas they will always try to push you into swapping onto the holland and barrett equivalent.
This works for the shop magazine too, this also counts towards the commission. That's why if you buy only a flapjack you will still be asked "do you want to buy a magazine?"
Most assistants feel ridiculous doing this, I know I did! But we were constantly being hounded by managers, moaning about how many magazines we had sold.
Also the price increases were ridiculous, the amount of times a product would go up in a year, I could not believe it.
I would always watch for when the product I wanted was on offer and stock up! I don't know if this is of any help to anyone, I just thought it was terrible how they constantly moaned at us.0 -

I was a regular user of admatch, I didn't use it for a while after safeway were taken over (thats were I got most of my leaflets to admatch) and then I found out they had stopped it.0 -
I work as a van driver for a company based in the south west, we sell car parts/ motorbike parts/ bit like halfords but better, if you want TRADE discount, just ask for it at the till "do i get trade on that as i work for *insert local garage name*" "can u put that on a trade ticket my dad owns *insert garage name* or...... "can i have trade on that i work for *insert other car parts company name"
this works most places except halfords..... even works with online companys....and dont worry about scamming them outta money, we make huge profits on everything we sell...
for instance.... headlight bulb for a laguna cost to you £1.00, cost to trade £0.85p cost to the comapny £0.13p..... works on everything we sell
i'd second that. I do this a lot at any part I might have to buy at a dealers. Just say you're trade and from 'insert garage name here'. Theyve never asked me for ID , trade card, or anything. As far as Im concerned this is not scamming as they make enough out ofyou already.0 -
In large stores after stuff has been discounted, discontinued and so on, if it is not sold off it goes.....
Into a crusher  I think this is obscene.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
