Hi and thanks Sparkly, Teacup and Wendym.

Unfortunately things got worse for me today. I feel very low but on a positive note i have booked to see a counsellor so i guess thats something.

    :)

That's more than just 'something'. That's a really good sign that you have the energy to try to make things feel better.

    My very best wishes, Wx

Have you had a look on the "depression" thread under health?

They are all really nice on there especially Tiff - you do not have to be diagnosed as depressed or anything to join in - or even just "lurk".

HI going back to what I first posted my hubby has just started this new job the money is £17,500. a year.
Wages have been slightly messed up and it looks like he will earn £528.00 fortnightly (monthly £1056.00) but he gets paid fortnightly.
It is less than he used to get. Our outgoings are £760.00 so we are left with £386.00 PER MONTH for food, petrol, , doesnt look like I will get a holiday ever again!.Or be able to buy ANY treats. We have a student(pays £100.00 a week ) but we are overdrawn everymonth so this gets eaten up , we are not spendyy in any way shape or form and I dont treat myself. I walk 5 miles a day to save bus fares !.
We have a mortgage on our home and we did get the child / working tax credit £40.oo a month but we were overpaid so we dont get that, till it has been get paid back .
Is their anyhelp I can get benefits or anything, to help. I will look for part time work once summer hols are over.

can anyone offer advice to me how I can budget or how I can live on this, my little boys birthday is coming up soon and I feel sad I cannot give him much. I dont drink, smoke . I go to the see film first films as a treat when they are not all gone, !!. We are over drawn and I cant see how I can cut back more. My home is nice and comfortable and I am lucky to have a home in this day and age , but I feel a bit subdued about finacial situation and how to manage . Their is a breakdown of outgoings in this thread somewhere.
Would I be entitled to council tax benefit, school dinners anything like that ?????

Annual earnings after tax are £13,717.00, I used the working tax credit calculator but they take your earnings before any deductions have been made ????

    help......................................

Hi teacup- I'm surprised you weren't entitled to a bit more than £40 a month tax credit on an income of £17,500. Ring them and tell them your new income, even if you are still in arrears it might come down a bit quicker.

How many children do you have and how old are they? I see you've posted about getting a job once they get back to school. Are they due back in 2 weeks time? You could start looking now or what about an evening job? Could you do that?

    Hi spendless

I love your screenname !. I have 2 children 10 and 8. I will able to start looking for a job now, I have not been able to for a long time as hubby worked shifts and it was so hard to find something to find something that is term time, and within school hours . I will keep my eyes peeled ,kids go back to school 4 th september.
I will ring them and let them know the new income ( I thought everyone got the same £40.00?) . an evening job would be good, in september I am going to college (one evening a week ) to get a career !as I want to start a business one day (my vision !!), to enjoy it and bring some pennys into the home! Thanks for reply x

It depends on household income and how many kids, and other things like any qualifying childcare costs and any disabilities as to how much tax credits you get.

    www.entitledto.co.uk

I know several mums with primary school age kids who work evenings, cos it means they don't need childcare in hols, or have to use holidays up to watch sports day or the christmas play etc.

Goodluck at college, I'm also there-my youngest goes to f-time school in Sept (HURRAY -shhhh;) ).

Many thanks for the web address, Congrats your youngest is off to school full time !!!!!, I know the feeling happiness tinged with a little guilt that I was chuffed about it !!!!!!!!!! We deserve it!

How checked out intitled to and it says I would be intitled to about £3,837.00 a year about £73.40 a week that improves things a geat deal and I will try and get hold of them on Monday and get something sorted out.
It will be less because we owe the £500. but it will make a differencexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx many thanks

Hubby worked it out this morning it will be £30.00 a week not the amount above I quoted we had to take in to account his earnings for period 2006/7 which were more than what he will earn this part of 2007 for ever!. It seems you are penalized for what you earnt before , but I guess thats tax etc for you and they need to work it out somehow. Still £30 per week cant be scoffed at

You can use the budget planner on the main site to help keep track of your incomings and outgoings, lots of tips for saving money on Oldstyle board and Debt free wannabe.

Don't worry too much about how much you give your children materially, you are there for them and when they are older that's what they will remember. I am sure that many children on summer holidays wish their mum could have the time off work to go for walks, picnics in the park etc.

many thanks nearlyrich that was very sweet and just what I needed to hear , as I cant provide material things for them , and i guess looking at it from that perspective they do have my time and I have missed one or two assemblys only. As I know I will never be able to get that back time and i guess that is the most important memories and time . Sometimes when I let it get on top of me I feel inadequate as I cant give them that side of things and I have often bought second hand things , clothes etc. They look smart and no one knows. I guess mums/dads who do work would want the opposite to me more time with the kids and sometimes perhaps they make up in other ways. But I will settle for the time as when I am older and greyer I wont regret any missed times or oppertunities, even though it feels that we have to go without a little. I always try and think of less fortunate people as well and then I know we are all lucky in one way or another , even if we take a negative spin occasionally !!

    teacup,

Im seeing the thing you said about starting your own business, I wonder if youve ever thought of doing a bit of Avon or Kleeneze? theres quite a few people on here who have done those? Otherwise, I dont know where you are but the jobcentreplus website is fab for part time ( adn full time) jobs.

Im sure that bringing in a bit of money and getting out there will break up your routine, especially when the kids are at school it must be tough being home a lot. I was off sick last year and the worst thing about it I felt was not really having a lot to contribute in terms of converasation. OH would come home, how was your day? Well i dindt have much to say - and felt a bit "non person". Getting back to work was fab! Even if I had a boring day at work ( which I do a bit in my current job!) at least I have something to say, the things Ive seen on my journey, what my colleages have done/wore/ what I have for lunch! anything really, but at least I now have a contribution and my relationship is more equal now than it was then, not cos of the money, but because of what I have to talk about.

Also, I dont know if you know about www.quidco.com - its a cashback site?
Basically there are opportnities on there, to get a little back, even for free stuff- Im thinking, maybe you should do the free dvd trials? Youll get paid for them,( about 15 ) but remember to send back & cancel them ( i have a calendar by my PC to remind us) but will be a few weeks of free films through the door that might help you a bit with "things to do"

If you are not working, and have some spare time in the day or evenings, have you thought about entering loads of competitions? I entered a few and Ive won a few bits & pieces, some ive sold on ebay, some Ive given away, one I kept ( a nice picnic rucksack with chocolates and posh food in!)

And another motto I have is "this is my life, i dindt think when I grew up Id be boring, so what can I do to be less boring today :D" Even if I read a few cahpters of a book I borrow from a freind, Ive enriched myself, and by doing so enriched others around me.

Hope this helps hun, and chin up - and carry on with that book, sounds really great :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
