So he got the job!! Had his offer verbally last night and has had email confirmation today :)

I am sitting in our bedroom surrounded by boxes and I feel a little emotional - there have been some bad times in this house but there have also been some really really good ones! I can't wait to start the new chapter but I will be sad to leave our first home.

Anyway, one more box left to pack so I best get on with it!!

  • Hi Kirsty. Congratulations to OH on his new job. Extra money and extra time is fantastic news and being able to go down to one car is even better.

I hope everything went smoothly for you today and you aren't too worn out.

    Thanks all :D

I am utterly in love with the house - was very upset to have to come to work this morning as I just want to keep unpacking and get it all finished :)

Have had some stresses....cream carpet on a building site was a TERRIBLE idea, carpet cleaner now needs to be hired as the removals men have filled the house with muddy footprints :(

Car insurers refused to insure at new property so cancelled insurance - cue panicky trip to local pub with free wifi to arrange new insurance... about the same cost overall but needed a hefty deposit so monthly amount is less. Must save this year to be able to pay outright. Will put on to do list.

Had picked out new lounge furniture in IKEA, budgeted for (well, paid for by family as Christmas presents mostly) but had a sneaky look on ebay - cost for whole unit in IKEA was over £700. Same set on sale in Surrey, won auction at £120 and paid £147 for courier to collect and deliver to us yesterday...bargain :D

Kitchen unpacked. Lounge mostly done. Sharps coming tonight to price up bedroom furniture (well, give us a plan to take somewhere cheaper, but shhhh ;)

Bedrooms are full of boxes and bathrooms are partially unpacked. Much left to do but have a date with the xmas tree tonight :D

To do list remaining from last weeks:
    [STRIKE]Change drivers license address[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Change address with bank and credit card companies[/STRIKE]
Chase British Gas about change of address AGAIN
Order console table for hall (with spare money from ikea stuff)
Decide on bedroom plan for our room rather than living out of boxes as we are at the moment
Send off OHs speeding fine to change to his name instead of mine

    Back to the grindstone :D

Sharps came out last night - what rip off merchants! I can't believe anyone actually pays their prices. £8412 for 4 doors and chest of drawers, in their cheapest style
We were planning to compare elsewhere anyway, but when the designer started pulling out 'vouchers' to bring the price down, my blood was boiling. 'final' price was £4100 - still a joke and anyone who tries to convince me they can do the job for half the 'original' price isn't getting my custom.
Think we will end up going with good old ikea - sourced secondhand from ebay naturally :)

Lots to do. Need to sort velux window blind ASAP as the moon seems to be right over new house at bedtime and I don't sleep properly with any sort of light showing.

Still no additions to CC. They are coming, and I'm putting it off as best I can but there are some unavoidables. Will be paid off ASAP and are 0% so I'm just trying to stop myself stressing about it.

Still utterly love new house. Don't want to come to work, just want to be at home :)

    To do list before Christmas:
    • Order console table for hall (with spare money from ikea stuff)
    • Decide on bedroom plan for our room rather than living out of boxes as we are at the moment
    • Send off OHs speeding fine to change to his name instead of mine (put in envelope and stamped, but forgot to take out with me last night)
    • Velux blind ordered
    • Sort someone to put in tumble dryer vent
    • Order flexi hose for washing machine from screwfix (after small leak due to space for pipe :o)
    • Burn off oven - tried once but gave up after an hour of rank smell
    • Put spare bed up and arrange furniture properly in bedrooms
    • Put lock on gate
    • Wrap remaining presents which arrived this week
    • Hire carpet cleaner
    • Move freezer out of garage into kitchen diner
    • Do xmas food list
I think that's enough to be getting on with :rotfl:

What is wrong with your new address to make it so undesirable to the insurance company?

Apparently it's because their systems don't have the new postcode registered yet and Hastings wouldn't add it to their system - a proper 'computer says no' moment :wall:
Could take a few weeks to be resolved and I'd be without cover for that period of time so good old esure came to the rescue :)
