I've been where you are regarding the name when I was expecting my eldest son I was told he had to be named Robert :rotfl: eh no cause everyone in that family was called Robert ..............I won the battle and they fell out with me for a while but I didn't care I gave my son his own identify and he loves his name......which is Xander btw but I gave him the middle name robert
Is this something you would consider maybe giving the little one his daddy's name as a middle name???NEXT TARGET: Halifax credit card DEC 22 £0 / £4499.12POAMAYC 2011 £6378.35 POAMAYC 2012 £5000.78POAMAYC 2013 £3480.04 POAMAYC 2014 £4085.14POAMAYC 2015 £7565.24 POAMAYC 2016 £8000.90 POAMAYC 2017 £7278.80 POAMAYC 2018 £13208.18POAMAYC 2019 £13309.28 POAMAYC 2020 £15026.050 -

Well done on standing your ground Abba!! I love OH but I'm not that keen on his name so it definitely won't be a first name! It's on the middle name list but I also have a male family name which all males in our family have, so if we use the one it's only fair to use the other but as we are going double barrelled I think 2 middle names will make his name massively long! It's on ongoing discussionWhy would you put your car seat on the pram base? I know they all say you can do that but why would you?
We did it all the time with the niece Kitten, was a godsend! Not for long periods of time, but if she was asleep in the car and we needed to nip into aldi for milk it saved waking her up, when she was younger she wasn't a good sleeper and I know if little man is the same it will be worth it's weight in gold not to have to wake him to transfer him to the bassinet of the pram:j PAID VERY, Barclaycard x3, Vanquis, Natwest, O/D, Tesco & MBNA x2 PAID :j LBM 24/07/15 - Original Debt: £0/31010.23 (100% paid)

Our old lodger came to visit for a night last night and brought some beautiful things that his mom had knitted in NZ and sent over for baby, including a lovely baby blanket
I love handmade baby clothes, such a thoughtful gift and a lovely talent to have. I wish I could knit or crochet!
I'm officially halfway through pregnancy now, and I woke up this morning feeling absolutely humongous! I feel really uncomfortable, it's like he had a growth spurt overnight, little tinker.
I've had a horrendous cold for a few days now and I'm battling through it but not being able to take anything except paracetamol is making me a bit miserable - nasal spray is my best friend when I have a cold normally. I've forgotten what it's like to be able to chew food without stopping for breathing breaks :rotfl:
OH is having a rough time at work at the moment, he has stayed back at least twice a week since we got back, which wouldn't be too bad but they don't get paid for extra hours they do and it's more hours than a full day at work at the moment in total for 2 weeks which is winding him up, and putting him in a bit of a mood which takes him a while to snap out of when he gets home. I'm just ignoring him until he calms down. It's working well so far:j PAID VERY, Barclaycard x3, Vanquis, Natwest, O/D, Tesco & MBNA x2 PAID :j LBM 24/07/15 - Original Debt: £0/31010.23 (100% paid)

OHs CC DD came out 3 days ago and I forgot to update  what is wrong with me?!
Anyway we are well within sight of credit card freedom! We do have a CC with a balance on but we have the money in savings so I'm not counting that.
We have most of the big stuff for little'un now as well - nursery furniture, pram, car seat, next to me crib, breast pump and a mamaroo. We also have enough clothes in the up to 1 month size and a fair bit of 0-3 and 3-6 so unless he is mammoth from birth I think we will be ok for clothes.
Next plan is to start stocking up on nappies and wipes. I'm going for the same ones we use for my niece (Aldi) so if for any reason they don't suit him we can just swap the sizes and they can still be used. Still putting money into savings in the hope I will be able to take a full year off with him rather than just the 9 months. It's looking good so far so fingers crossed for no large unexpected expenses!
I have also set up a bank account for the baby (in my name at the moment obviously) but I want him to be able to start on a better foot than I did, by being sensible with money. I'm putting money in there now to cover swimming lessons etc but this will also be where his birthday/christmas etc money goes for his future
Both cars have passed MOT in the last 6 weeks so bar a couple of new tyres, that was less of an expense than expected.:j PAID VERY, Barclaycard x3, Vanquis, Natwest, O/D, Tesco & MBNA x2 PAID :j LBM 24/07/15 - Original Debt: £0/31010.23 (100% paid)

We used the car seat on the pram base all the time as well to be honest, it's just so handy. DS also hated lying flat in the pram because he was nosey and wanted to see everything when we were out, so would just cry unless he was in the car seat on the pram base instead! We'll be using it less now as he's bigger & have converted the pram to forward facing but has been a lifesaver for us.
How lovely to get the hand knitted things Kirsty. My MIL has knitted quite a few cardigans and a small blanket for DS and I also received hand knitted cardigans from a friend and a friend's mum as well. DS looks so cute in them and everyone always says how much they love seeing babies in hand knitted things.
I have no patience for knitting but would love to.
Sounds like you're well organised with the baby stuff. My DS was half an ounce off 10lbs when he was born and to be honest he still fitted in some of the newborn stuff. I thought he would be too big for it but it was actually fine as he wasn't a particularly long or large baby - just heavy! :rotfl:
We use the nappies from Aldi and have found them to be pretty good. The only problem we've had is when DS is between sizes - right now he's too big for size 3 but the size 4 is still a bit big on him so can leak when his nappy gets heavy (i.e. overnight). I found that the Morrisons own make nappies were quite good last time he was at this stage with Aldi nappies as their sizing seemed to be in-between the Aldi sizing (if that makes sense?), so going to try them again.
Good idea on the bank account - we have a bank account for DS now and have put the gift money we received for him in there - people were very generous but we had most of what we needed. Hoping to use some of it for bigger gifts i.e. a swing/slide etc when he's a bit older but also as somewhere to put birthday/Christmas money should it be received.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. We used the car seat on the pram base all the time, the lying down pram bit got used half a dozen times at most. This was because we drove somewhere and then just popped the seat on the base, we didn't tend to have him in the pram and walk out of the house. If I had my time over again I would have bought a good second hand pram/car seat thing and a pushchair and not the fancy mamas and papas thing I bought that ended up knackered in the tip by the time DS had outgrown it!
My Mum knit DS a blue jumper with a little sailor that was attached by a string of wool and went in the pocket. She had knit the same one for my nephew and a similar one for my nieces that had a teddy in the pocket 20 odd years beforeSave £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

How very annoying that my update yesterday seems to have gotten lost!! I can't entirely remember what I rambled about either
Interest has been added to the mortgage today so I'm off to make an OP to bring us down to exactly £161,000. Still on track to be at under £160k by the time little one arrives which makes me happy
Have put aside Saturday for OH and my Dad to empty out what will be the nursery of the current bedroom furniture so I can get them up on ebay. I think my Dad thinks I should give them to him as he runs a charity furniture store but I'm working on my mat leave fund so I'm afraid he's out of luck at the moment. I do normally donate stuff for him so I don't feel too mean...
Car seat has arrived. Everything bar clothes is being stored at my parents - I have taken the clothes home as my sister has a habit of going through the stuff my parents have bought and taking things she likes the look of, can't remember if I mentioned this before now but my sister is also pregnant and my newest niece/nephew will be arriving in May so my parents will be having a busy few months and I am being protective over donuts clothes etc :rotfl:
I'll keep the between nappy size thing in mind Sashy, my sister said the same about a period of not fitting - niece is only a dot and she slightly too big for size 4 but too small for size 5 so she uses pampers in the interim but I prefer the thought of an own brand rather than shelling out a fortune for a brand name!
How lovely that the cousins had the same XSpender, that must be lovelyI do love babies in knitted things
a very lovely MSE'r who I haven't heard from in a while knitted some lovely hats when my niece was born and I've already got the little green bonnets ready for donut too. Providing he doesn't have a huge head anyway!
My Nan called to ask if we would like my christening gown for the christening next year, which I'd like as it was made for me and my cousins have worn it and I love the idea of passing it down but it is very girly and OH is most unimpressed at the thought of his boy in a long flowy lace dress :rotfl::j PAID VERY, Barclaycard x3, Vanquis, Natwest, O/D, Tesco & MBNA x2 PAID :j LBM 24/07/15 - Original Debt: £0/31010.23 (100% paid)

I love reading all these baby updates, how exciting!! Half way all ready, be Christmas before we know it and you will have a baby in your arms in no time, will fly in!
I use the pram base and car seat ALL the time, always for popping into the shops, it is just so so convenient and couldn't be without it. I am another voter for Aldi nappies, but of course if you want to be a really good MSEer you could use cloth nappies..... but no amount of savings could make me do that personally!!

Hi Kirsty
I've been reading along but haven't posted in aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages....I'm glad to see that things are going relatively well now. I hope the rest of the pregnancy goes s smoothly, but it sounds like you need to have a good word with your office to make sure they aren't calling you ever five minutes once the baby is born.
Take care of yourself and donut and see you soon.x
