I'd not heard of it before Bob, I came across it on google!

What a pain about your last car though! Did they stump up for the repair in the end?

OH wanted to buy an audi avant estate thing, but I don't like estate cars, and having heard a few audi horror stories the past few days, I'm glad I talked him out of it!

They did the first time. But we took it to another garage and they said they suspected transmission failure. Which would have cost £2,500 to fix. We drove it till it just died. It was hideous. Stalled all the time and leaked oil everywhere. The garage claimed it was fit for purpose when they sold it. We suspect it was an ex fleet car as it was literally spotless but with symptoms like that had been trashed mileage wise.

We should have taken it further, but at the time had so much other stress going on we walked away. And I made the stand then and there that I'd never borrow money for another car. And we haven't. Hence walking or cycling everywhere since August 2013.

On post hashtag (I can't find the symbol on my Macbook for a hashtag, well I can, I just don't know combination of buttons to press for it to appear!) 1178 - you say that nothing much happened. That's not strictly true though is it?
You found a pair of curtains you loved, obviously thought it through budget wise, made a conscious decision to purchase even though they were over your allowed amount but still did more research and found them for £60. That, from an outsider point of view is something to be pleased about. It's the kind of anecdote I would bore my OH with when he walks through the door after work!
You researched a car you thought was perfect and, once again, you checked it all out online and well, it sounds less reliable than Delboy's three wheeler!

That's it really, I just want you to acknowledge when you do achieve something, no matter how big or small.
Hope you are sleeping well. x

Thanks Zippy, for reading my ramblings and for your insight. You are so right - sometimes it's so easy to overlook the 'small' positives, even when they aren't that small! An outside view is sometimes all it takes to show me that I need to change the way I look at things :D

What a nightmare Bob, we were discussing last night going for a car from a local second hand garage rather than buying privately as we thought we would have more comeback with issues, but obviously that thought doesn't always work!

So the deal is done and we have a new car.

We have got what seems to be a good deal from a local garage. Had the car checked with the AA 128 point inspection thing and it got all green lights. It's the perfect family car and has extremely low mileage. It was an old motability car so has been well looked after but I want to scream at the fact I now have more debt when I so wanted to be DF this year. The main chunk of it is under joint debt and will be overpayed later, minimums until my debt is paid. However to get as much on 0% as possible, part of it has gone on a balance transfer so will add this to my signature at some point this week, once I get my head around it :(

It was sensible, especially when the old car started losing the lights intermittently and had the brake light permanently stuck on, not to mention the speedometer stopped registering the speed frequently (all this got worse over the last few weeks) so took it to a garage and they think it will cost £950-1050 to fix as it's a problem with some central module or something that operates all the electrics and can only be refitted by Vauxhall, not a normal garage - rip off!

We managed to part ex it and so managed to get a fairly decent deal with a bit of haggling. I'm trying to look at the long terms - OH keeps telling me it's important we have a safe and working car with little ones and now we are down to 1 car we are paying out less. It's cheaper on fuel, tax and insurance. I'm trying to sell it to myself!

In other news the niece is being a little monkey and is now pulling herself up to standing on anything she can find and doesn't want to be held anymore, she just wants to hold your fingers and walk around the room. She's not 6 months until the 16th! I think much babyproofing will need to be done before long.

Thanks Abba, I feel a bit better about it now as an old colleague with the same car as the old one has had the same problem and scrapped hers a month ago - at least I got more than scrap value for ours!

I know it's a good deal, I just need to come to terms with my payrise being eaten up already. At least I've got my next focus, along with the mortgage :)

Also, OH worked wonders with the house whilst I was out visiting my parents, sis and niece - he has put 2 curtain poles up, built a wardrobe, tidied the kitchen and put a mirror up in the dining room :)

I'm very proud of him, especially as his beloved V8 supercars were on this weekend and he held off watching to get that stuff done

    Hi Kirsty

I'm glad the deal is done. Less headspace to keep thinking about it now. You are so good at overpayment, I have no doubt you'll have that extra bit gone as soon as you can.

Amazing about the little one too! I've had two early walker's (9 months and 10 months) but neither was pulling up at 6 months!

Kids are incredible though. I met a lady the other day who had a 6 month old who was cheerfully saying 'hello' already!

Thanks Bob :) I'm already planning ways to overpay ASAP!

She's fab, but it's scary! In my 'old life' before I got a proper job I worked part time in the baby room of a nursery - we took babies from 12 weeks onwards so between that and midwifery I'm no stranger to babies but she surprises me everytime I see her. I suppose because it's different now that it's a baby who is related to me but I don't remember the nursery babies pulling up at this age - it worries me as to how quickly she'll be off and whether everything will be baby proofed in time!

My sister has been trying to teach the niece to say Hello but she is resisting! She will give a high five when you ask her which is cute, but no words as of yet :)

I'm feeling very emotional and wound up tonight and am struggling to keep my temper, for very little reason so I think I might be better off going to bed early :o

Oh I didn't know you had been a midwife. That's so cool.

My DD hasn't really started speaking yet. I am not worried at all as she understands so much and does what you ask so no trouble with hearing or anything. Anyway, the last couple of days she has suddenly learned how to say Chair. It's so random and hilarious and very very clear. Compared to all her other words which are jargony at best. The things they do!

Anyway my love, hope you feel better in yourself in the morning.

    Bob

I was a student midwife Bob, rather than a fully fledged one - I did 1 years training and realised my 18 year old self couldn't handle the bad things that tend to crop up as a midwife so I left and went to work as a nursery nurse until I was a bit more able to handle things. There was one thing in particular that I ended up being party to that still haunts me to this day and I was quite fragile for a few months afterwards. Perhaps someone as over sensitive as I was, was the wrong choice for that profession.
I still think it's something I'd like to go back into now that I have matured a bit and deal with (most) things better. It was a mostly lovely time of my life - although I lived in Eltham at the time and the day I started my training at the local hospital a programme aired naming it as the dirtiest hospital in Britain - my first few months saw a LOT of homebirths!

That's so funny about DDs words - they pick up the strangest things don't they. Such a lovely age though :)
