    REWARD CURRENT ACCOUNT ELIGIBILITY
"We are removing two special conditions from the RCA as you no longer need to set up or keep a minimum of two different direct debits on your RCA. To receive the £5 reward payment you still need to pay out a minimum of two direct debits, pay in at least £750 and not have a debit balance during the calendar month"

So the change is ????.... just the word 'different' ????
That's halifax for you;:rotfl: same but different.
I actually didn't realise the DD's had to pay out to receive the £5, just be set up, until I re-read the T/cs. I was only concerned about the £200 switch fee at first, until first 2 DD's weren't pulled, and re-read t/cs.I have letters every day from all the banks with changes to t/cs.

They wrote to me months ago,and said i had been selected for a special offer of £200, instead of £100.
Don't know why, unless it's because I have quite a sum with them in Isas.??
I wasn't going to bother, it had a deadline, which I just beat.
There were a few others , but not many, according to the girl on the phone.
    Must like me.

So you already had a current account with them but they wanted you to switch another?

This is a useful thread. Thanks to all contributors. One of my DDs is to TalkTalk and they do a 10% discount for speedy payment, ie. make your payment before the DD is due and u get 10% off and the DD for that month will not be taken. I was about to do it, thinking that just having the DD set-up would be enough to keep my £5 reward. ...Now I know it isn't. So, thanks :)
(The 10% would be less than a fiver, btw)

No Dird, I have quite a few Isas with them, too many now the £85k limit is being dropped, got to move some
I had .No current A/cs with them,at all, and they sent the letter asking me to switch my current A/c to them for £200
.As my main Current A/c is Hsbc,50 + years, and I have umpteen others,;) I switched my 4 year old NationwideFlexi A/c to Halifax Reward, and got the £200.
I never ever used the N/wide anyway( used to a lot).I had it just for the free travel insurance, but, never used it, it only had £5 in it, and a debit card.
I'd never switched for money before, just set up new A/cs all over the place, so, thought I would try it.
The DD's have been the only glitch;I really did not read the T/cs proper about them in the first place, so, I'm guilty there, even though I set them up right, date and amount, I didn't check them.
.I thought just having them set up was enough for the £5, and stay in credit, putting the £750 per month in.Tesco still have boobed somewhere with the first 2.see if they do with the next 2.

You can switch another current account held elsewhere into an existing one. Effectively you go from two accounts to one as the switched one just disappears as it is merged into the other. This is the case with the Halifax switching deal open to all, ie you don't need to be opening a new Halifax account to switch into, but the £200 offer was for selected customers only (sadly not me).

I have found Halifax useless at doing things. They cocked up switching my Isas to them, from Nationwide, and compensated me. I'd planned the switch for months, to get them under one A/c, but, they messed the last one up.I just fell lucky with the £200.Normally, I'm lucky to have bad luck.If some one Crapped themselves, it would end up in my pants.
I may re=-switch the reward a/c yet, to another bank, now I have done it once. ;), but, the £5 comes in handy, when/if I get it.:rotfl:

Just received the same letter and on skim-reading originally thought they were dropping the requirement for DDs completely. Currently, having those direct debits is a requirement to keep the account. They were downgrading accounts if they fell below 2 direct debits and presumably they will stop doing this from November.

Yes, my thoughts on reading it were: oooh, then awww, then errr...

Like you I first thought they were dropping the requirement, then I realised they weren't (if you still want the fiver). But the wording isn't terribly clear on whether the direct debits now need to be two different ones, or just two.

I won't be making any changes regardless.
