Thanks Coxy :D it's good to be back!

I'm not officially starting til the 1st but hoping I can last til then without shopping (may need to get milk but hopefully not) as we have no budget left for July.

I spent some time yesterday doing a wee bit of batch cooking and sorting out the fridge so I think I'll be OK.

Made blackcurrant cordial too with some blackcurrants from the garden. It's divine :D like R*bena on steroids lol. Loads more blackcurrants left so will make more jam this week (have made one batch from the garden already!). The old owners left preserving sugar in the cupboard so the jam was 100% free and the cordial was just the cost of the granulated sugar from L*dl. Feels good to get back into the frugal swing of things :D

I need to do this challenge!
Just sorted through the freezer and need to use up a lot of stuff so hopefully that might help me stick to budget.
I'm going to try to spend less than £150, which is probably a lot considering what I already have in cupboards/freezer, but then again it's quite a bit less than what I usually spend.

    Thanks Lynne :)

As part of my bid to not spend til the first, I realised I need to stop having milkshakes for breakfast or my (less than 2 pints) of milk won't last (I may need to get some more if it goes off anyway...)

So I decided since I have natural yoghurt I'd make some granola using this recipe (quartered as you get loads in the original): http://thestonesoup.com/blog/2009/09/7-secrets-to-a-healthy-breakfast/ - I had all three of the ingredients in lol.

I also had blackcurrant pulp left from making the cordial yesterday so I sweetened it to make a compote. Then I remembered I had some apple and cinnamon compote in the freezer I didn't like much as I'd made it with old apples and it was a bit tasteless. So I defrosted it, mixed it with the blackcurrant stuff and now I have tangy apple and blackcurrant compote to have with my granola and yoghurt. Actually I have enough for around six breakfasts so I froze some :D

Large-ish Al*i shop done today - £75.63 spent. Decided to go for 4 weeks as then money will be in the bank for the next shop.

With the food I have in, and what we bought today, I have enough for some breakfasts, snacks, lunches and 25 main evening meals (going to try and make it to 30!). Will need to top up with milk and veg but should come in on budget. Have written out a list of the evening meals but need to sort them in to a weekly meal plan.

Think this week will be -
    Tuesday - Lasagne and GB
Wednesday - Mini pies, veg and mash
Thursday - Beef & Potato Hash
Friday - Chicken Veg Curry and Rice
    Saturday - Halloumi Salad
    Sunday - Tuna Pie

Will redo meal list now I have a plan for this week. Think I am getting the hang of it now! x Hope everyone is on budget and enjoying planning !!

  • Hello again,

This month me and OH will be trying again to stick to £150. I don't know how well it will go as we are both off work the whole month, so it means we don't have to buy stuff for lunches, but we may buy more, i'm not too sure.We were only £11 off last month so fingers crossed :).
