That rule of thumb would still put a 4kW system at £7,200 which seems very high. Most folk on here seem to be sub £5k for 4kW but I am sure they will all chip in soon
  • If you are in North Wales , I used a good local.Company called hafod renewables. They fitted 9 x LG 300 watt panels and a solar edge inveter so I can monitor each panels.performance.

I couldn't fit the full 4kw either but the higher wattage panels meant I maximised my roof. :)

    Hi Dafydd,

5000 seems a bit on the high side for a 2 kw system. A good guide we use is £1800 per kw so a 2kw systen should work out around the £3800 mark, hope this helps.

Not sure about that at all. My 2kWp system with SolarEdge was £4k back in 2012. I'd expect a 2kWp system to be closer to £3k now, and larger 4kWp systems to be around £4.5k to £6k.

Perhaps for larger systems you meant £1k/kWp + £1,800? Or you are referring to smaller systems using SolarEdge and more expensive panels, which will push cost up a bit?

Maybe I'm being a little unfair/cynical, but you've set off a few alarm bells with me, by naming a company in only your second post, and using this phrase

    Well spotted!!

 Hopefully I'm wrong, but as pinnks pointed out the cost example is way too high. Plus I had a look at the company's web-site and it's still showing FiT and export rates from 1/1/15, which is a bit of a concern given all the changes this year.

@ Martyn - I did think that yesterday when I read the post.
I thought nobody on here (the 'we' being the community here at MSE) has used that figure anywhere?

With the second post naming a company which has not been mentioned anywhere previously on the forum, my cynical side started to question it!
4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.
Now with added Sunsynk 5kw hybrid ecco inverter & 15kWh Fogstar batteries. Oh Octopus Energy too.
  • hello
i may have misunderstood the last post.
I would like to clarify as a company is offering to fit 16 solarworld panels and if they are an unknown quantity I will cancel the visit.
The preliminary "advisory" email I had was 5250 GBP all fitted for 4kW 16 all black panels .
I think they will change the quote after the visit (as I don't think 16 panels can go onto the best roof).
Could any forumites confirm if they have used these panels please?
    many thanks

( only picking up the courage to go (?) solar because of all the expertise out here)
  • clarification:
I may have misunderstood and the " hitherto unmentioned on these fora" company may have been hafodrenewables.
I would be grateful for comments on solarworld panels please.
    many thanks

We use them for bin liners too but I wonder which are the least worst for the environment - bin liners or supermarket bags?

Not sure how I managed to post this here - meant to pop it on the carrier bag thread - should have gone to bed instead...
