Just reading about the review, rumours FIT could be cut to 5p. But we shall see.
Even with this I have calculated I will still get a return of around 8%

I'm not entirely sure why you feel the need to be abusive, but there are many factors at play when deciding which PV system and supplier you would want to go with - not just bottom line cost per peak watt.

For example, higher efficiency panels may be attractive if roof space is limited. Micro inverters or power optimisers may also be a good idea to maximise output if shading is a potential issue - not to mention the much higher resolution monitoring that such solutions provide. Maybe the reassurance of going for 'name brand' products from companies likely to be around to honour a guarantee might also be a factor.

In my own personal case I was also keen to support a local company set up by a young entrepreneur keen to establish himself and deliver ecological good.

There are many factors that might be important to people - however I also appreciate that these might be less important for those who focus on the cost of everything but miss out on the value of what they do.

[STRIKE]I wasn't being abusive, but your comment on this thread seemed to indicate you would be happy paying more for a system if it met your green goals.

    My reply to that[/STRIKE]

    Can't be arsed.

I quoted you for the benefit of warrenb as this is their thread, who is just starting out on their PV adventure.

Green is fine but don't pay over the odds for it.

If you want to try and teach me to suck eggs, please start a new thread for that.

**Apologies to warrenb for sidetracking your thread

    Abusive?
If a price is too much ALL the regular posters on these forums will say that you're getting shafted, many will say run to the hills as fast as you can, my personal favourite is did the salesman put his mask back on before getting on his horse to leave.

Unfortunately the OP hasn't been so forthcoming with all their information. In their opening post they are quoted for 12 panels yet another quote can get 14 panels, that will make all the difference for getting the right price as there is quite a few higher capacity panels that could be fitted but will keep costs to a minimum

For instance the JA Solar panels, there is only £20 difference between the 250Wp panel and the 285Wp panel meaning its only £40 more for 14 premium panels and a near 4kWp system, that doesn't warrant a higher install cost, in fact due to less panels, bracketing and cabling it should be more or less the same as a "standard" install

So, in my opinion their pants are at half mast and they should try their hand at getting that bottom line down, irrespective of whether its a local or national company.

The initial quote I got was for 12 panels because of shading and a subsequent quote I got was for 14 panels because this company said they would deal with the shading issue by shortening my wastes water vent according to regulated minimums, also the panels were of a higher rating making the system 4kw. Not everybody here has to chase the lowest price, because sometimes if you are happy with the company this is at least 50% of the decision.
I am happy with the company and I am happy the quote, ergo I am happy :-)

And not everybody can afford to pay over the odds, hence they post on here....the money saving site. As long as you are happy with your price then great. At least you got prompted to look at a near 4kWp system for less money than you were originally quotedsmiley-happy019.gif

Went with a 4kw 14*285 JA Solar panels as I face ESE need all the panels I can get, 2 strings, as the very bottom row will have slight shading in winter from the house opposite.

Portrait 5 for 2 rows and then a 4 for the bottom row because of said waste water vent which is being shortened.

Very happy with the company who have been really good getting things sorted.
