Solar quote

Options
Just got a quote for 12 Sunworld 250w panels Black on Black and sunplug inverter for a 3kw system for £6200. Seems a little high, but includes remote monitoring etc. Not sure how good the inverter or panels are.
Any advice ?

Hiya, having trouble finding Sunworld, could they be Solarworld.

The inverter is a new one on me too, but the specs look decent, very light, and high efficiency, about 1% better than most.

Price is too high, for 3kWp, you want to aim for closer to £4k. Are you space limited, can you fit more panels, or go for 285Wp panels, or higher efficiency (more expensive panels) such as 327Wp?

Yes I did mean Solarworld, sorry. Did seem a little steep especially as I am on a ESE facing roof.
Getting a few more quotes now.

Do you also have a WNW roof? There are people daft enough to consider both (cough, see autosig, cough, cough!)

They wouldn't quote for the WNW, shading from trees and room only for about 4 panels. The panels seem very good quality and as you say the inverter is very good, but I shall get other quotes and try to knock them down a bit.

As Mart says, price is on the high side. If you post your rough location, then you might get recommendations for reasonable priced installers.

I live in Tonbridge in Kent. I would really like to go with them but need to get the price down.

Do you really believe the company would be willing to drop to £4k to accommodate you, I don't if I'm honest, you need to get more quotes, you can get that price down but I doubt it will be with that company.

Must be the area we live in but 3 more quotes and none under £5800 for a 4kw system.
Now I have done some maths and need to know if it makes sense
I have done this as all the companies who quoted have over estimated the production because even though I insisted my house is 75degrees off of South they have all quoted a SE aspect.

Been on PVIS and entered 4kw at -75 angle and generation should be 3470 a year.

    So

    3470*.1292 = 449 (FIT)
    (3470/2)*.0485 = 84 (EXPORT)
Now most of our electricity is used during the day as I work at home. So assume a 50% on electric
    (3470/2)*.14 = 242 (Electricity saving)

So total payment a year could be £775

Install cost is say £5800, that is a return of 13.36%

    Is that right ?

Hiya. Your numbers look correct, but be careful with that 50% assumption. Working from home will help, but there will be a lot of time when there's no washing or dishwasher to be done, you're generating 3kW and using 500W, so a lot of gen is being exported.

You may consume 50%, but it's a hard job. How much leccy do you consume each year? Higher users, will naturally save a bit more than low users.

Shame you can't get a better deal, but might be worth you taking things slow for a month and keep shopping. You may find a better deal, or one of the quoters may make a better offer, but as you've noticed, the returns are still high, even with the recent FiT rate drops.
