OK got bug now and looking to put a 4 panel 330w system on the garage roof. So a couple of questions
1. Is the epc from the house used as the garage is detached
2. Rough cost
Thanks

Hiya Warren. First things first, have a read of section 10 of the FAQs, as there may be issues about connecting up a separate system, as you may exceed DNO rules/regs.
Your EPC will stand, as it's against the property with the MPAN, so where you 'stick' the panels is almost irrelevant.
Cost wise, no real idea, but let's assume no scaffolding, and you contact your installer and suggest a half day job, as and when they are quiet. Hopefully that'll pull the cost right down, but assuming you'll need a separate inverter and all new AC work right up to the current TGM, plus all the certification work etc etc, then it's still going to be proportionately expensive. I'm thinking £1k for the panels, they are quite expensive panels, then another £700 for fittings, inverter, cables ........ £2.5k .....?

Installer has already applied to the DNO as I mentioned it to him when I was signing the FiT forms and it doesn't cost anything.
Just done a PVGIS and should get around 1000kwh a year from it.
Just a matter of does it all add up, will get a quote from installer for a quick half day job and see what he says.Living in supposedly sunny Kent

What's the difference in them and how will it affect things in the real world?

Lot's of FiT Providers have contract terms that state something like
"if you have a smart meter that is capable of measuring export, then you'll come off the 50% deeming tariff and be paid on measured export."
Fine if you don't divert to immersion or other load, but if you do, or you use a lot of the generation by virtue of being home and doing your damndest to use as much as possible, which is actually quite hard, then you could lose out.

I shall be staying away from smart meters until it is either law or until there is a common standard!

Hello,
I am planning to take the plunge into solar PV and got 3 quotes ( well one of the quote was bit too high at 9000£ for 4kWp -doorsell).
it will be a split system of smaller south facing and larger South west ( roughly 1.25kWp and 1.85kWp) in Stirling.
The two quotes I have are from Hanergy and another local firm in central scotland.
Hanergy/Ikea is quoting £6053 for 3.13kwp ( 25 panels and claims annual generation of 2295) this uses their thinfilm panels and two SMA SB2000 invertors.
Other firm ( scottish solar ) is quoting £5630 for installed system size 3.975KW ( they claim gallium panels output 3442 kw and MCS prediction of 3102kw) they use Pangea 833 gallium panels 15 in number and Solis 3.6k Inverter with 10 year warranty ( dual mppt).
Like many others I am complete novice and would be grateful for opinion. I was going to implicitly trust Ikea but not sure now. I don't know anything about these 833 gallium panels and there is not much information out there about Solis inverter, is it reliable?.
thanks for your views on this.

I'd certainly suggest looking for a few more quotes to compare with your "other local firm in central Scotland" before making any firm decisions. There have been many postings here from people who've had even lower quotes.NE Derbyshire.4kWp S Facing 17.5deg slope (dormer roof).24kWh of Pylontech batteries with Lux controller BEV : Hyundai Ioniq50 -
Forget Ikea/Hanergy, their install offers less for more money!!
The 8.33 panels are well received and the Solis inverter is a good brand.
First of all, have a read through of the Solar PV FAQ, lovingly maintained by the ever helpful Martyn.
Next, start a thread for your own install and questions, so the OP's thread doesn't get sidetracked any more than it has done.
Your first post in your new thread should contain rough location, roof pitch, number of roofs and their orientation from north, with approximate sizes.
Even better, if you can find your house on google maps, you can post a cropped image that means all who can help will be able to see exactly what your roof/s can offer and any potential problems.
Good luck!4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.
