please please can you give me some advice please.firstly sorry im in wrong thread im new and havent a clue how you start a thread.

but the main thing i came to ask for advice is
we are have nearly completed 2 years on our dmp plan with stepchange. but my question is we want to move to a council bunglow which we have been offered but my concern is will we be accepted by the houseing org when they see we are on a dmp plan.at present we rent privately we have always paid our rent on time please can we have some advice .

I don't think housing associations carry out credit checks. Local Authorities (councils) definitely do not do this. Don't panic - talk to the housing officer if you are really worried. I would just leave it and wait for everything to go through.

I agree with January2015, I don't think housing associations will worry about the DMP phil67. Rent is a priority debt so has to be paid first anyway regardless of what a person owes.

    Hi Phil

I've no idea if they do a credit check, but here seems a good place to ask the question and the advice by the others seems sensible. Perhaps your current landlords would do you a reference to say you have always paid on time etc?
Try not to panic over something that only might happen and might not be a problem.

Welcome to the thread and good luck.

Anxiously awaiting pay day. Couldn't afford to get the car fixed so basically keeping our fingers crossed that the darn thing starts. OH has taken the poker from the fireplace to hit the starter motor with in the event of an emergency! It was OK today but who knows what tomorrow will bring. Only a few more days to debt freedom so that will be something to celebrate. Can't wait.

Sorry I know it's not funny, but I did break a smile at the thought of OH beating the starter motor with a poker, please forgive me:o

You know you can do this, only a few days to go.

    Hi Sazzie

I am having 2 payments in one month for my energy :(

Old supplier collected on 1st and new supplier collecting on 23rd (Monday).

I have money due back from old supplier but it won't arrive for a couple of week apparently. I did have £100 in my emergency fund....transferred it tonight to cover the double energy payment in one month and will put it back when the refund comes from old supplier.

Fingers crossed for you that you don't have this situation.

Darn I hadn't really read the emails properly and realised today they were taking the money out on the 25th, new supplier, old one paid on 1st and 12th. Since I don't have the extra cash in the account, I've had to borrow it from the very depleted emergency fund, wish I'd noticed before I decided to pay the car insurance in full.

I think this is one of the type of reasons people like me are reluctant to switch, but I've done it now so I'm going to grit my teeth and hold on. In theory I should be £300 a year better off, but it's going to take some time to feel the benefit.

I have worked with people and social housing in my area for 25 years. I can obviously only speak for the Council and Housing Associations where I work. You mention that it is a Council Bungalow. If you have been offered then they should have already done any checks they require, 99% of which you would have answered in any housing application form. Some Housing Associations do a Police National Computer Check , although now most housing forms ask you if you have any unspent convictions. The same goes for any housing related debt, and if you do have any are you dealing with it. I don't think you have anything to worry about, but if concerned speak to someone at your council like the estate manager where you have been offered.

Well I've done it, I can officially say that I am debt free:j:j:j

Four and a half years, it has gone very quickly really, so for all you DMPers out there, stick at it, your time will come.

Car goes in tomorrow, I'm hoping I don't have to beat the starter motor with the poker:p

  • Evening all,

I'm very annoyed. I swapped energy suppliers in Feb this year and paid what I thought was a final bill. Not thought anything about it until I receive a random email from them saying my bill is ready. Turns out the previous bill was for gas only and I owe for the electricity originally to the tune of £101.00. I queried the meter reads and once adjusted I owe £91.00. Really not happy as this is months later and just before Christmas.

My question is do I struggle to pay it or add to the DMP and is this worthy of a written complaint.

    Thoughts please, TIA
