  • hi Newbie, my spreadsheet goes up to 2023 :rotfl:

I need to save £24000 a year to meet my goal... that is £2000 a month and the only way I can do that is by stopping the regular OPs.

I was going to use Quidco and other tilly tidy money for OP but i think i'll use it for fun things like christmas etc

    xx

I use QC for gifts - you don't get that much over time to be able to use for OP
2k? thats a lot. mind you, my budget of 1500 was ambitious, I failed to get anywhere near 1k.... but I guess it's still something.... I'll be 60 before I am MF!
  • Good luck with your plans, Diamonds :T

Glad you will still be on the mfw boards though

Can't believe that you plan so far ahead - I haven't even planned this year yet! :D I take it you already have the money saved for the mini diamond's primary school then?

Hi PrincessLou, Ashamed to say we don't have anything saved for primary school except enough to pay full fees for both mini diamonds for 6 months in case we lost our jobs etc. The really scary thing is I will be paying fees out of salary each month for both mini diamonds and then saving hopefully £2000 a month for secondary school. £165,000 will cover 1 child and we again will pay for the other from salary

Massively risky and sometimes I find it stressful but all I can do is save as much as I can each month.

The only ray of light is if one of them managed to get a scholarship or grammer school admission but I need to plan for the worst case and hope for the best case :)

    Hello Diamonds,

I have just been catching up on your change of plans, sounds very sensible to save as much as possible in advance for the school fees, wishing you lots of luck with your new goal.

  • I’ve negligent of my diary… sadly time is limited at the moment. Too many hours dedicated to work and not enough to the family or MFW diary
I have been doing MFW things though. Below is the summary:
    • Begin re-mortgage to 5 year fixed rate, saving us potentally saving us £20 a month- and as we will have unlimited OP I will be directing anything that is surplus of my £2000 a month school fund straight to the mortgage pot (if there is any).
    • Switched to Halifax rewards for myself and DH so expect to bag £125x2 and then the £5 a month rewards
    • Switched a HSBC current account to their Advance account and opened a 6% regular saver. I will use this to stash some of the £2000 school fund

Work has been particularly dismal… I was given the all clear following a post-op check by my surgeon and he was pleased with the results and so much so he’s scheduled me in for surgery in my other ear ear as he had a cancellation its set for July , to the outright and obvious inconvenience to both my bosses. One looked at her calendar and mention revised budgets being due and me having to make sure I complete it all before I am off and then preceeded to say both ops are in different calendar years but she’ll have to monitror my sickness! I preceded to tell her I didn’t have any more ears to operate on she needn’t worry. :rotfl: The other boss asked when I’d have to let the hospital know if I needed to reschedule for work reasons. Pretty disgusting and neither were at least bit interested in my hearing being almost restored to normal levels in the operated ear.

Anyway I am off to hopefully catch up on some diaries... p.s coursework due in 3 weeks, absolutely freaking out now..need to do well xx

    Hello Diamonds,

Hope you are able to find a balance between work and family life, best of luck with the course work.

Pleased that your first op was so successful and I hope your next one in July goes as well.
I preceded to tell her I didn’t have any more ears to operate on she needn’t worry.
    This really made me lol.:rotfl:

A little understanding and compassion from your bosses would have been nice, if they ever find themselves needing an op perhaps they’ll realise the error of their ways.

Sounds like you’ve been busy with organising the finances, great work with the switching bonuses.

  • Thanks LL, it really is the worst place for flexibility I have ever worked and I've had about 8 employers in the last 10 years (contractor previously) and they have all been much more accommodating in every single possible way even though I wasn't an employee. This place just depresses me, I am not treated as a person and there are only 9 employees so it should be a nice environment...its really really not!

the few times I have asked to leave "early" at 5pm my oss has said I suppose so.. in fact early has been 5pm and I didn't realise until the re-mortgage application the other week that I'm actually only contracted work 8.30am-5pm so technically i haven't left early at all, just on time. Usually I work 8.30am to 6.30pm without taking a lunch break and yet when i've asked for a bit of flexibility its been a massive issue.

    Anyway moan over. Money news:
Halifax switch was on hold as my barclays acc didn't match the address of the new account, all sorted now so hopefully switch happens soon.
alot of takeaway and lunch spends over the last week. Plus bought a new suitcase for a work trip next month. I hope to have £200 left for rainy day savings and I may OP mortgage with anything else left or just put it into the ISA.

Can't wait till Thursday for payday and personal spends day. Need some cash and a big bottle of wine...

  • So I should be doing coursework but i am procrastinating. It has been a great weekend with the mini-diamonds. Not as much studying as I hoped. A little bit spendy with a day trip to a fabulous farm followed by KFC lunch on Friday. I have signed up for national trust membership to explore our beautiful surroundings more. I really hope we use it and get lots of fresh air and family time.

I have been reflecting alot and I find myself feeling fairly glum of late. I am not sure if its the horrible boss/work situation, hormones or just the fact life isn't going the way i'd hoped or planned (bigger house & more money).

Although the new budget and savings plans are going nicely there isn't anything left at the end of the month for much else. Financial security is more important than the big house but when so much of my dreams were tied up to that goal I find it hard acknowledge that for once I won't be achieving a target I've set.

hey ho I am just feeling ridiculously sorry for myself. I the feeling will pass, I have a chocolate bunny that should do the trick lol

On money news £125x paid in for our new halifax reward switches. This means pot for going away over christmas this is almost full. Just need another £200 or so. All the money has come from quidco/surveys or account switches so I haven't actually had use any other funds. Really pleased with that so far x

need to sort our 2015/2016 ISA allowances this week.

Sorry to hear about work situation and boss not being supportive. I have a fairly stressful full-time job if the environment wasn't supportive I can't imagine me doing it!

Great news on the hally switch free money. Its worth a money shuffle each month to bag the free money.

    Hello diamonds,

Hope the chocolate bunny helped :) and that you're feeling better about things now. Pleased to hear the budget and savings plan is going well and great that you got the bonus for switching.
