Hi everyone,
Great idea - I might just join you! I go to a writers' group at my local library and this is just the sort of info that we share with each other. 2 years ago I managed to get 3rd prize in a local competition and won myself £25! Not much but I was chuffed. You've given me the inspiration to get myself organised and start entering competitions again. If I hear of any I'll post them here.
Happy writing everyone!Mortgage Free as of 03/07/2017 :beer:0 -

Hopefully I'll be taking a leaf out of your book (haha) tomorrow and getting something down myself. I tend to decide on a specific comp first, then write for that - just gives me an aim, if ya kknow what I mean!
(off shopping now and haven't had the time to meal-plan OR make a shopping list... the plan is to be below the £55 budget... oh gawd, wish me luck pleeeaaase)
I'm a bit annoyed as I emailed the bit I'd typed out at work 'home' to myself and it hasn't arrived. Oh well, bit sleepy tonight anyway and got another quiet day tomorrow so will get a bit more done then. They say if you want to write you should spend some time every day doing it, even if it's only 10-15 minutes, so you keep in the habit.
Good luck with the shopping!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Yep, you're right, really should try and write something each day... good excuse to leave love letters for your other half :smileyhea

Hey guys, I've won a prize in a writing competition!
Ok I'm only a runner-up, and the prize is only a set of commemorative stamps with a face value of £3.40, buy hey, it's a win!
The prize was in the post office magazine and you had to write about a good product you'd bought from the post office! First prize was £150.

Lucy, I'll be doing the same as you this weekend, looking at some competitions. I've also been scribbling lots of things down, and dug out some odds and ends that I wrote a while back to see if I can turn them into something more substantial... quite strange reading some of it, thinking about the time I wrote it and realising how much life has changed since then. And some of it really made me cringe!

I found some old stuff while clearing out some boxes eariler in the week and agree totally. I founds something that would have been written when I was about 16/17. Very embarassing, although I do see some potential there, just needs drastically re-writing (so it's nearly completely different!!)Current debt - £16,300

Seaxwyn - WELL DONE  Yay!!!!!!
That's lovely to hear! It's also nice to see others coming back and saying they've made a start. I sat in bed waiting for hubby to get out of the bath Wednesday night with notepad and pen, and made a start on a short. Then lost my direction and went to sleep! lol. But, aha, the weekend is almost here, so I'll be making some quiet time to get stuck in...
Will see what happens...

I'm planning to give the competition a go too.

Ohhh, I think this is exactly what I need, I was only saying the other day that I would like to try and write - I did a lot when I was younger, and have loads of half-stories dotted around that I should really finish.
I think it runs in my family because my Grandad won a cometition and had a short story published about a man who had a goldfish that he kept taking out of it's tank, for longer and longer periods each day, until the fish learned to breathe, then one day he took it for a walk on a lead, and it fell in the river and drowned....:rotfl:
I currently have two childrens stories on the go - Space Ships And Baked Beans, and Luke and Aria Save The World....lol....
I've also got one about a young boy whose parents died when he was a baby, and he suddenly discovers he has magical powers and goes on to rid the world of the most evil wizard of all time....but apparently someone has beaten me to it.....
