Part of the Furniture 100 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Im due to travel to the yea on 28th August and am taking £2000 spending money with me.

I would like to put £1500 of that onto a travel card so that the money is safe

My question is if I don't spend the full amount of dollars can I withdraw it back it my bank account?

Also do I have to convert it all to dollars or can I leave some in pounds?

I only have a windows phone but an iPad so can I use the iPad to top up the card?

    Thanks very much

    Hi skintsaver,

With Revolut you can withdraw back to your bank account at any time and if it's a UK account this will only take 4 working hours.

It's up to you if you convert from GBP to USD, if you don't want to exchange before hand the card will convert money for you at the instant of transaction.

Some users top up through an iPad, I would advise you to try this out with a small sum such as £10.

They use Interbankspot exchange rate for every currency. You culd check it before you exchage it.

So what pot would that come out of, and can you control it ?

eg say i've got £100 €150 and $200 and i go to the atm and withdraw 500pln (about £86) , what if i do the same but only got £50 €50 $50(ie not enough in any one pot)

    Hi mwarby,

    Great question!

For background, every account has a base currency, if your account address is in UK then it's GBP, for a Eurozone address it's EUR and for a US address it's USD, for all other countries the base currency is USD.

This means that if your Revolut balances are £100, €150 and $200 withdrawing PLN 500 will draw from a different balance depending on where your account was created, from GBP if from UK, EUR if from Eurozone and USD if from US and Rest of the World.

However, suppose you are withdrawing 500 PLN, your balances are £0, €500 and $200 and your account was created in UK then the amount will be taken from the highest balance after the base currency, in this case EUR.

To clarify, transactions are deducted based on location (if in UK from GBP, if in Eurozone then EUR and if in US then USD), if you are outside of these countries or do not have a high enough balance in the respective currency then transactions are deducted from your base currency (chosen by address), if you have insufficient funds on your base currency then transactions are deducted from the next highest balance.

i.e. Country Currency -> Base Currency -> Highest Balance

If you tried to withdraw PLN 500 and your Revolut balances are £50, €50 and $50 the transaction will fail as you need the the amount of a transaction needs to be contained within at least one of the balances.

Is there an issue with the service?

As I can't do anything with my account and keep getting error messages, and the chat support isn't responding.

so customer services has responded and my account has been blocked for some unknown reason and they don't have the authority to unblock it.

you wont refund the money I topped up, you wont transfer the money back to me, you've stolen my money.

I will be putting in a complaint with the FOS shortly, im sure that will go down well for a new company, and I'll be getting a refund via a chargeback with my bank, and will be making them aware that you use peoples cards for fraudulent purposes
